3. The Comparison of the Test Result

The comparison of the test result can be seen in the table 4.3 below: Table 4.3 No Pre- Test Score X Post-Test score Y D = X-Y D 2 = X-Y 2 1 52 56 -4 16 2 48 60 -12 144 3 72 80 -8 64 4 32 48 -16 256 5 76 80 -4 16 6 48 48 7 76 80 -4 16 8 60 72 -12 144 9 52 60 -8 64 10 76 80 -4 16 11 40 52 -12 144 12 72 76 -4 16 13 48 72 -24 576 14 52 56 -4 16 15 36 56 -20 400 16 36 48 -12 144 17 36 68 -32 1024 18 36 52 -16 256 19 40 56 -16 256 20 40 52 -12 144 21 64 76 -12 144 22 44 72 -28 784 N=22 ∑X = 1136 ∑Y = 1400 ∑D = -264 ∑D 2 = 4640 This table shows that the result of ∑D = -264 and ∑D 2 = 4640.

B. The Analysis of the Data

In analyzing the data, she tried to find out the standard of differences SD D with the formula: = √ ∑ [ ∑ ] = √ [ ] = √ [ ] = √ = √ = To find out te mean of differences MD between variable X and Y, the researcher used the formula: ∑ After gaining the result of SD D = 8,18 the research calculated the standard error from mean of differences SE MD between variable X and Y: √ √ √ The las calculation is determining the result of t observation t o of the test with formula: The result -6,741 indicated that there was a difference of degree as much as -6,741. Regardless the minus, it does not indicate negative score. Then, to complete the result of the research, the writer finds out the degree of freedom df with the formula: df = 21 see table of “t” value at the degree of significance of 5 and 1 At the degree of signi ficance 5 = 2,080 At the degree of significance 1 = 2,831 The result is 2,080 6,741 2,831 The result of analyzing the data by using the above formula shows that the coefficient is 6,741. It means that there is a significance increse after the role play is used to teach speaking.

C. The Interpretation of Data

Having analyzed the data of pre-test and post-test by using t-test formula, the result shows that the coefficient is 6,741. It means that there is significance increase in teaching speaking by using role play. From the result of calculation, it is obtained the value of the t observation t o is 6,741 the degree of freedom df is 21 obtained from N-1 = 22-1=21. The writer used the degree of significance of 5 and 1. In the table of significance, it can be seen the df 21 and the degree of significance of 5 and 1 the value of degree of significance are 2,080 and 2,831. If compared with each value of the degrees of significance, the result is 2,080 6,741 2,831. According to Sudjiono if the result of calculation t o t-observation is higher than t t t-table, t o t t ; the null hypothesis H o is rejected. If the result of calculation t o t observation is lower than t t t table, t o t t ; the null hypothesis is accepted. Since the scores obtained from the result of calculating, the alternative hypothesis H a is accepted and the null hypothesis H o is rejected. In other word, the writer hypothesis is accepted. It means that there is significant differences between students’ achievement in learning speaking skill using role play. Based on the result of data analysis, it is proven that the students’ score of speaking taught by using role play is increase. It means that the use of role play in teaching speaking is effective. Another reason based on the students’ responses is because most students find that role play is enjoyable. This reason leads to better attention in learning and stimulate them to participate in role play activities. 43 CHAPTER V CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

A. Conclusion

Based on the resesarch, the writer concludes that: 1. From the result of the analysis of the research, it is proven that the students’ score of speaking taught by using role play is increase. This result has answered the research question that the use of role play in teaching speaking is effective. 2. The use of role play makes the speaking amd learning activity more enjoyable and interesting. It is because role play helps the shy students by providing a mask, where students with difficulty in conversation are liberated. In addition, it is fun and most students will agree that enjoyment leads to better learning. 3. The use of role play makes the class more active and alive. Students are willing to participate without any forces from the teacher. 4. The use of role play makes the students more motivated in learning and easier to grasp the lesson.

B. Suggestion

The succes in teaching speaking does not depend on the lesson program only, but more important is how the teacher present the lesson and uses various techniques to make the cass more enjoyable and lively. Therefore the writer would like to give suggestions in applying role play. and after making the conclusion above, there are some suggestions for teachers: 1. Teachers should increase the student motivation and interest in learning English by using fun technique such as role play that can make the students express their ideas.
