CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

This chapter presents the final discussion of this research. In this chapter, two major sections are presented. The first is presenting conclusions drawn from the research result. The second is presenting suggestions to improve the quality of group presentation technique.

A. Conclusions

There were three problems stated in the first chapter, they were how the implementation of group presentation technique in Language Teaching Methodology course is, what the students of Language Teaching Methodology course perceptions on group presentation technique are, and what are some possible suggestions that can be drawn after knowing the students’ perceptions on group presentation technique. The first research question was answered by taking the data from the observations. The result of the observations showed that in general, the implementation of group presentation technique in Language Teaching Methodology course already fulfilled most characteristics of effective presentation and good method simulation. However, there were some characteristics of good presentation that had not been applied by the presenters. Time limitation and lecturer’s lack of general overview of some techniques for conducting presentation and method simulation might be the cause of the problem. 62 PLAGIAT MERUPAKAN TINDAKAN TIDAK TERPUJI 63 The second research question was answered by using the data from the distributed questionnaires. From the result of the questionnaires, the writer might conclude that the students’ perceptions on group presentation technique in Language Teaching Methodology course were positive as stated in chapter 4. The third research question was answered by taken the data from the open- ended questions from the questionnaires. From the result of the open-ended questions, there were some possible suggestions that can be drawn from the students’ perceptions on the group presentation technique to improve its implementation: 1. Group dynamics: a. Cooperation and full commitment for the successfulness of the presentation. Each member should share equal tasks and responsibilities and clear job descriptions. b. Each member should master the material and the simulated the method well in order to be able to satisfactorily respond to the audience’s questions. c. Good preparation and rehearsal of the presentation. Including preparing who will be the students chosen among the students in the class and the teacher chosen from one member of the group. 2. Facilities: The institution should provide modern media for presentation such as computerslaptops, viewer and screen so that the students are familiar with how to operate them. 64 3. Presentation: a. The group should be able to deliver clear, interesting and understandable presentation and simulation of the method so that the audience will pay attention to them. b. The group presentation should provide and simulate different examples of how the methods work in the classrooms. c. The group presentation should provide enough and equal time allocation for group presentationsimulation and lecturers’ comments. d. After each presentation, the students are asked to evaluate the group presentation’s performance. This information will not only serve as the feedback for the students presenting and simulating the method, but also enable the lecturers to make some changes and revision in the group presentation techniques to improve the next group presentation. e. The lecturer gives clear mechanism on reward and punishment for the students who are active in the presentation. The audience should pay respect to the presenters by paying attention to them during presentation and asking questions during questions and answer session.
