CHAPTER 4 RESEARCH RESULTS
4.1 Background
4.1.1 Overall description of the respondents
A general background will be given about this research. This research consists of a demographic description of the research repondents about
adjustment and loneliness amongst International students studying at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta. This research was done on a
Friday, 22 January 2010.
This research was done at the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta, with an amount of 60 students as respondents. This 60 respondents
were further divided into 2 categories which consist of 30 male respondents 50 and 30 female respondents 50, with an age-group ranging from 20
years to 25 years old. And also consists of 6 different countries such as, Malaysia, Thailand, Somalia, East Timor, South Africa and Singapore.
Below follows a general description of the respondents according to a demographic factor in Table 4.1.

According to table 4.2 a full layout of the gender has been given according to the adjustment variable.

According to the adjustment category, 13 students 21.7 adjust on a high level, and the high rating is dominated by the males. On the average
category, 36 students 60.0 adjust well on this level and the rating is dominated by the females. And the low category, as many as 11 students
18.3, adjusts on a low level. The low rating is dominated by the females. According to the three categories it can be seen that females dominatingly
adjust better on an average level than the males do.

According to the gender loneliness category, 10 students 16.7 suffer from loneliness on a high level, and the high rating is dominated by the males. On
the average category, 39 students 65.0 suffer from average loneliness and the rating is dominated by the females. And the low category, as many as
11 students 18.3, suffers from loneliness on a low level. The low rating is dominated by the males. According to the three categories, females
dominatingly suffer from average loneliness than males do.
