Parenting Quality of Female Tea Picker Having Children Underfive in Malabar
Plantation PTPN VIII Bandung, West Java

Abstract
The general objective of this research was to analyze parenting quality of
female tea picker. Particularly, the objectives of the research were to: (1) identify
characteristic of the mother, the caretaker in child day care, and the children, (2)
identify parenting activity done by the mother (in office day and in holiday) and
the caretaker in child day care, (3) compare parenting activity done by the mother
in office day and in holiday, (4) compare parenting activity done by the mother
and the caretaker in child day care, (5) compare parenting environment in the
house and in the child day care, (6) analyze influence of parenting quality in the
house and in the child day care on child development.
The research was conducted by using cross sectional study design. The
location was chosen purposively which is Malabar Plantation, PTPN VIII. The
samples were the children in child day care, the mother whose job as tea picker,
and the caretaker in child day care. Data was taken in April 2008. The collected
data was processed and analyzed by using computer program Microsoft Excel
and Statistical Program for Social Science (SPSS) version 13.0 for windows. The
difference analysis between variables was done by using independent sample t
test, while influence analysis was done by using multiple linear regression.
Total parenting time allocated by the mother in office day is 241.05
minutes, while in holiday is 319.88 minutes. Total parenting time allocated by the
caretaker in child day care is 152.14 minutes. Parenting activity done by mother
and the caretaker in child day care consist of going out with children, playing with
children, feeding children, doing household chore while taking care of children,
sleeping with children, and helping children taking a bath. The Difference Test
shows that there is significant difference between parenting activity done by the
mother in office day and in holiday (p
