III. METHODOLOGY

3.1 Time and Location

This research was conducted from March to July 2008 including process of developing method and implementation of method. Developing the method was accomplished at Bogor Agricultural University, while implementation of method was conducted for study area in Sidoarjo Regency, East Java Province. The boundary of study area lies between the latitude of 7 o 30 ’ 35 ” - 7 o 32 ’ 47 ” S and longitude 112 o 41 ’ 59 ” - 112 o 44 ’ 00 ” E. The location is shown in Figure 1. 3.2 Required Tools

This research uses some supporting hardware and software. The hardware used is a unit of personal computer with Pentium IV processor, 512 MB RAM and 80 GB hard disk. Some supporting software is used to accomplish this research are Map Info 7.0, Arc View 3.3, ER Mapper 6.4 and Ms. Office 2003. 3.3 Framework of Vulnerability Analysis The decision analysis of vulnerability for mud volcano adopts elements from the techniques of multi-criteria evaluation Malczewski 1999 with required modifications. Proposed procedure was conducted in this research is shown in Figure 2. Firstly, the set of evaluation criteria is problem specific depend on the particular system being analyzed. The criteria selected should reflect all concerns relevant to the decision problem and must contribute toward achieving the objectives. The relationship between the objectives and attributes has hierarchical structure in MCDA Malczewiski, 1999. At the highest level can distinguish the objectives and at the lower levels, the attributes can be decomposed. Then, the data is collected accordingly the need analysis to support evaluation criteria. The data collected is secondary data including spatial data and non spatial data come from supporting literature, field survey of previous research and related maps of the region. To obtain the expert judgment regarding the scoring of the criteria, structured questionnaire and interview was used. The spatial data of study area that was used for supporting the research include land use type, RBI Rupa Bumi Indonesia – Indonesian Topography and evaluation criteria maps. Topography map RBI map with the scale of 1:25000 are acquired from National Survey and Mapping Agency Bakosurtanal. Hazard criteria maps are obtained from BPLS and Centre of Environmental Geology Bandung. Thematic map and hazard criteria map layers will be used and processed in the GIS analysis. The next step is performing multi criteria evaluation. The input of fuzzy AHP is crisp Pairwise Comparison Matrix PCM. After that, performing GIS Analysis that include the process of generating vulnerability map, conducting sensitivity analysis and comparing vulnerability map with impacted area handled by BPLS. The last step is conducting recommendation base on the analysis. 3 Figure 2 Flow of the research process
