Data Analysis

2. Data Analysis

a. The Pre-Test and Post-Test Analysis

The pre-test was given before doing the treatment in both groups. The students’ score, value and descriptions of the students’ ability in the control group can

be seen in Appendix 13a (Table 17) and Appendix 13b (Table 18) while the students’ score, value and descriptions of the students’ ability in the experimental group can be seen in Appendix 13c (Table 19) and Appendix 13d (Table 20). Based on Appendices, the researcher calculated the mean, standard deviation and variance.

1) The Mean, Standard Deviation and Variance of the Pre-Test and Postest

Based on Appendix 14a (Table 21), 14b (Table 22), 14c (Table 23) and 14d (Table 24) they show that the mean of the pre-test in the control group was

59.70 and the mean of the post-test in the control group was

63.82 which were stated adequate while the mean of the pre-test in the experimental group was

65.88 and the mean of the post-test in the experimental group was

85.73 which were stated adequate. The standard deviation of the pre-test and post-test can be seen in Appendix14a (Table 21), 14b (Table 22), 14c (Table 23) and 14d (Table 24). The standard deviation of the pre-test in control group was

10.14 and the standard deviation of post-test in control group was

8.62 while the standard deviation of pre- 8.62 while the standard deviation of pre-

10.08 and the standard deviation of post-test in experimental group was 10.71. Furthermore, the variance of the pre-test can be seen in 14a (Table 21), 14b (Table 22), 14c (Table 23) and 14d (Table 24). The variance of pre-test in control group was 102.94 and the variance of post-test in control group was 74.33 while The variance of pre-test in experimental group was 122.97 and the variance of post-test in

experimental group was 114.80.

2) The Normality Test

Based on Appendix 15a (Table 25), the calculating of the normality test of the pre-test in the control group was L count = 0.0989 < L Table (L 0.05(34) ) = 0.151 in the significant level 5%. Because L count <L Table so the pre-test result of the control group was stated Normal Distribution.

Based on Appendix 15b (Table 26), then calculating of the normality test of the post-test in the control group was L count = 0.0914 < L Table (L 0.05(34) )= 0.151 in the significant level 5%. Because L count <L Table so the pre-test result of the experimental group was stated Normal Distribution.

Based on Appendix 15c (Table 27), the calculating of the normality test of the pre-test in the experimental group was L count = 0.0786 < L Table (L 0.05(34) )= 0.151 in the significant level 5%. Because L count <L Table so the pre-test result of the control group was stated Normal Distribution.

Based on Appendix 15d (Table 28), the calculating of the normality test of the post-test in the experimental group was L count = 0.1290 < L Table (L 0.05(34) )= 0.151 in the significant level 5%. Because L count < L Table so the pre-test result of the experimental group was stated Normal Distribution.

3) The Homogeneity Test

Based on Appendix 16a it shown that the result of the homogeneity the pre- test computation indicates F count = 1.194 and F Table = 1.814 with dk=n 1 -1, n 2 -1 (dk=33,33) at the significant level 5%. Based on the computation, it shows that

F Table >F count . So, it can be concluded that both groups were stated Homogenous.

Based on Appendix 16b it shown that the result of the homogeneity the post- test computation indicates F count = 1.544 and F Table = 1.841 with dk=n 1 -1, n 2 -1 (dk=33,33) at the significant level 5%. Based on the computation, it shows that

F Table >F count . So, it can be concluded that both groups were stated Homogenous.

b. The Hypotheses Testing

Based on Appendix 17 the testing hypothesis was a table value of t table dk = 2(n-1) = (34-1).(34-1) = 66 and the significance level is 5% (

), so t table =t 1/2

(dk) =t 0.025 x 66 = 1.996 and t count = 9.429. Since t count (9.429) > t table ( 1.996), it can be concluded H a is accepted and H o is rejected.

Based on the result computation on the table above, it shows that by applying Word Chain Game, the researcher proves that there is a significant effect on the

students’ ability in Writing Words. By applying the game, the students are able to write and identify words in descriptive descriptive text especially adjectives. It can be proven by the result of the post test after doing the treatment especially in the experimental group, comparing to the post test result of the control group without the treatment, it shows that the result of the experimental group in the post test was higher than the control group in the post test. In conclusion, there is a significant effect on the students’ ability in writing words by applying Word Chain Game.

Of the result of the hypothesis computation in the previous computation, it can be concluded the research’s hypothesis which has been written in Chapter I is H o

is rejected and H a is ACCEPTED.
