The Questionnaire Results Conclusions

teach the procedure to the students for more than two meetings. Eight meetings should be sufficient for the learners to understand the procedure and use it appropriately. To help the students understand the procedure quicker, the lecturers could assign them to do more homework and class discussion. The lecturers should also encourage the students to be more active and ask more questions in the discussions if they seem confused. During the practice, the students are likely to make many mistakes. It would be most helpful if the lecturers assure the students that it is completely normal for them to make mistakes during the learning process. Additionally, anyone who plans on using Clarke and Nation’s guessing from context procedure for teaching purposes must keep in mind that this procedure can only be taught to more advanced learners, such as college students. This is due to the fact that the procedure requires the learner to analyze the parts of speech of unknown words as well as recognize the relationships between words and sentences in context.

2. For Future Researchers

As far as the researcher is concerned, this research could have been conducted better. Instead of giving the students more examples of how the procedure should be done, the researcher asked the students to do the exercise after only one example. This, of course, was because of the time constraint. Setting a few more examples and asking the students to do the procedure step-by- step on the board may help them understand the procedure better, aside from giving them more individual or homework. The idea of conducting such research in other educational institutions is also intriguing. Therefore, the researcher would like to encourage future researchers who are interested in vocabulary teaching to conduct similar research in other institutions, such as schools. The researcher suggests that future researchers be extremely careful when planning how many meetings it would take for the students to completely understand the procedure. In the second chapter of the thesis, the researcher mentioned another procedure for guessing from context apart from Clarke and Nation; one which is formulated by Bruton and Samuda. It would be interesting to see which of these two procedures for guessing from context can help students acquire new vocabulary items more effectively.
