CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHOD
Research method is needed in a research, because the results of a research can be said to be valid or not depend on the way of choosing and
using the method which is relevant. The research method in this study covers research design, unit of analysis, source of data, method of data collection and
method of data analysis.
1. Research Design
The researcher used descriptive research method, in which the data were described systematically to get an accurate and factual result.
The data analysis in the research used qualitative data analysis. Qualitative research is a procedure of research which produces descriptive
data in the form of written words or oral words about the object that is observed. This method was used to analyze and to describe the mood and
speech functions used in terms of service in twitter.
2. Unit of Analysis
Unit of analysis in this research is the clauses that can be found in terms of service in Twitter. The analysis of Mood and Speech functions can be
drawn more clearly, since it is analyzed in the clause. 3.
Source of Data
The data of this research is written data. The data is the text of the terms of service in Twitter taken from https:twitter.com. The data were
choosen because it is one of the popular social media accessed by people around the world in recently and contains of interpersonal elements.
4. Techniques of Data Collection
This research used documentation method because the researcher collected the data from the text of terms of service in Twitter . The data of the
study were collected in the following steps: 1
Searching the terms of service of Twitter on the website https:twitter.com.
In this stage, the researcher searched the data refer to the topic of the study from the internet.
2 Collecting the text of terms of service in twitter
In this stage, the researcher downloaded the Twitter’s terms of
service for the analysis.
5. Techniques of Data Analysis
After the data of the research had been collected, they were analyzed by using following steps:

analyzing the data.
