CHAPTER V CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION
This chapter consists of two sections. They are conclusion and suggestion. The first section is conclusion. It contains the conclusion of the analysis of the
study. The second section in chapter five is suggestion. This section is divided into two sub-sections. They are suggestion for further research and for teaching
implementation.
A. Conclusion
There are two points that can be concluded as the results of this study. The first conclusion is the character of Lynette. The second is
Lynette’s motivation to fulfill the needs.
In the Some Other Summer, Lynette is described as a pretty young girl. She has no parents. Her father was disappeared when she was five and her mother was
drowned when she was seven. Lynette was an impatient girl. Her day was full of disturbance from her cousin, Eddie, and she always reacted to it badly.
Most of this story tells about Lynette’s love story. She loved someone named Jeremy. In this story, Lynette felt the hunger of love from Jeremy. Lynette
always felt the pain because of her love. Debbi who was Lynette’s cousin always tried to attract Jeremy’s attention. Everything that Debbi did to Jeremy made
Lynette jealous. Jealous is the symbol of the hunger of love. The hunger of love that she felt became her motivation to make a change in her life.
The second finding in this novel is Lynette’s motivation to fulfill her needs. At the level of physiological needs, Lynette who was an orphan had
nowhere to go. Sometimes, the lack of trust that she was welcomed forced her to go away from Josh’s family. It is Lynette’s motivation to fulfill the physiological
need. Lynette was also motivated to fulfill the safety needs. The disturbance she faced everyday became Lynette’s motivation to fulfill the safety need. The change
of her attitude toward Eddie had helped her to fulfill the safety need. There was a change from Lynette who reacted badly to what Eddie did to her into Lynette who
loved and care about Eddie. Another motivation that emerges in Some Other Summer
is Lynette’s motivation to fulfill the love or belongingness need. Lynette’s motivation was the lack of mate or companion. Lynette also felt the lack
of acceptance in Josh family. The last motivation is Lynette’s motivation to fulfill self-esteem need.
Lynette’s life at the beginning of the story was full of jealousy. One thing that she knew was that her cousin Debbi was prettier than her. There
was no change happened in Lynette’s life related to this hunger of self-esteem. Self-esteem is based on deserved respect from others. In this study, it has been
found that Lynette’s satisfaction of fulfillment had been achieved when her Uncle Josh gave a compliment to her related to the personal description of Lynette.
B. Suggestion
