4.2.6 Father Christmas
Father Christmas can be an allegory of the Holy Spirit and the Spirit of Giving. In Narnia where there is always winter but never Christmas, Father
Christmas is being kept out by the Witch for many times but then the spell begin to break after the arrival of Aslan:
“Ive come at last,” said he. “She has kept me out for a long time, but I have got in at last. Aslan is
on the move. The Witchs magic is weakening.” p. 56
Father Christmas gives some presents to Pevensie’s children and Mr. and Mrs. Beaver also. He gives Peter a sword and a shield. He says that those presents
are not toys, because they will be very useful someday, but he doesn’t state anything about usefulness. He gives Mrs. Beaver a new sewing machine. Mr.
Beaver will get his dam finished and mended and the leak will be stopped and sluicegate is fitted. He gives Susan a bow and a quiver full of arrows and a little
ivory horn. He says that he doesn’t want to see any war and even he doesn’t want to see the lady to involve in a war.
In the novel, Father Christmas is said to be kept out for a long time but he come back when Aslan is on the move, what comes to my mind for the first time
is that The Holy Spirit inside us actually feel the same way like Father Christmas does. The Holy Spirit in our hearts can’t do anything good because we still live
greedily, don’t care about others and there are so many sins that make us can’t avoid the sinful things. Our sins have imprisoned us and make us became further
from our Creator or God. But when Jesus and Aslan come and sacrifice himself to replace our positions as the sinners, The Holy Spirit become free. Father
