The Analysis and Interpretation of the Research Findings

2. The Analysis and Interpretation of the Research Findings

The analysis and interpretation of the research findings based on the result of the observation sheet and evaluation sheet.

a. Cycle I

In the first meeting of Cycle I, the researcher did not give the evaluation sheet to the students. But, the researcher just implemented the procedure of Vocabulary

Drill Strategy. There were 15 (57.69 %) students who did the activities and 11 (42.30 %) students who did not do the activities. While in the second meeting, there were 20 (76.92 %) students who did the activities and 6 (23.07 %) students who did not do the activities.

In Cycle I of the second meeting, the researcher did the evaluation to the students and there were three students (11.53%) can be classified in “good” level. There are eight students (30.76%) in “enough” level. There were nine students (34.61%) in “less” level and there were six students (23.07%) in “fail” level.. The avera ge of the students’ mark was 46.92. Although the highest mark was in the high level, it was not satisfying because most of the students were in very low level and they did not pass the Minimum Competence Criterion 65 point. Therefore the researcher continued the research to the next cycle.

Before the researcher continued the action to the next cycle, the researcher improved the weaknesses of Cycle I as follows:

a) Asking the students to listen the meaning of the topic of recount text to the

researcher.

b) Asking the students to know the right vocabulary into the cards in English.

c) Asking the students to able work evaluation sheet.

d) Asking the students to pronouce the word correctly in the index card.

b. Cycle II

Cycle II consisted of two meetings. In the first meeting, there were17 students (65.38%) who had done the activities, and 2 students (7.69%) who had not done the activities. In the meeting, the researcher still found some weaknesses such as:

a) Asking the students to pronouce the word correctly in the index card.

b) Asking the students to learn familiar word. Based on the improvements above, the researcher found in the second

meeting that there were 17 students (65.38%) who had done the activities, and students (0%) who had not done the activities. The result of the students’ evaluation sheet was there was no student in “fail level” and “less level”. However, there were14 student(53.84%) in “very good” level. It shows that there were fourteen students (53.84%) in “very good” level. There were sixth students (23,07 %) in “very good” level. There were sixth students (23.07%) in “good” level. There were fourteen students (53.84 %) in “enough” level. In Cycle II, the aver age of the students’ mark was 76.92.

Regarding to the result above, the percent age of the researcher’s activities that had been done was categorized into very good level (100%) while the percentage of the students that had all done the activities was categorized into very good level (100%).

10) Based on the result of the research, as the problem of the students namely; the students are not able to master the meaning of the word in recount text, the students are not able to write the right words into the cards of the English vocabulary, the students are seldom to practice to memorize and to pronounce English vocabulary because of different to write and read and the low ability of the students to give questions in vocabulary to the English teacher. Furthermore, the researcher applied the steps of Vocabulary Drill Strategy namely; The researcher introduces the topic of the students, the researcher reads aloud the chosen text to the students, the researcher invites the students in groups to read aloud in front of the class, the researcher writes out all the error words onto index cards during reading session, the researcher starts to review the index cards with the students, the researcher trains the students how to pronounce the word correctly, the researcher presents the all of the words until the students has progressed, the researcher gives time to the students to ask their difficulties and the researcher concludes the material. After implemented the steps Vocabulary Drill Strategy it shows that the students were successful in vocabulary mastery, especially recount text. The researcher would not continued the research to the next cycle since the result was satisfyied and the students had passed to the Minimum Competence Criterion which was 65 points.
