larvatus Wunnb) to Rubber Forests: A Csse Study in TabaJong District, South
Kalimantan Province.
Under supervised HADI SUKADI AUKODRA,
MOHAMMAD BISMARK, HERU SETIJANTO.
The proboscis monkey (Nasalis lalVatuS Wutmb) was confined to peat swamp
forest. mangrove ｦｯｲ･ｳｾ＠
and riverine forest of the coastal Iowtands. Many aspects
related /0 the probo$Cis monkey cJweUing rubber _
were poorty known. The
research aimed to study the adaptation of the proboscis monkey to rubber forest
The adapta60n was explored through approaches of popula60n distribu6on,
relation between the presence of the proboscis monkey and water source,
vegetation, daily activity pattem, food soun::es and nutrition content, proboscis
monkey's population and sharing of space and food w;th sympatric species, and
vocalization. The successfulness of adaptation of the ptDboscis monkey to rubber
forest was showed mainly by many rubber fotested locations dwelled by the
proboscis monkey and inhabitance long of the ptOboscis monkey in rubber forest
Other parameters showing this successfulness wete moderate sex ratio and
relatively high density of the proboscis monkey. The proboscis montcey adapted
to rubber forest through /eaming. The leaming lasted as long as the
environmentsl changes did not misplace water availability and vegetation
heterogeneity. The causing faclor of such change was stepping, ｩｭｰ･ｲ｡ｮｾ＠
and shifljng treatments of the people on vegetation. The successfulness of
adaptation aiso was supported by complex stomach of the probo$Cis monkey
making this primate able to consume food mainly consisting of leaves. In addition
to /earning, there was no other adaptation. I did not agree hypotheses that the
proboscis monkey was absent inland becaUse of lack of nufrllion. Stepping,
ｩｭｰ･Ｂ｡ｮｾ＠
and shifljng treatments of the people on vegetation could be
developed as a consetvation model in a cultivated area.

berkaHan dengan bekantan di tipe habitat hutan taret belum diketahui. Penelffian
berlujuan untuk mengungkap adaptasi bekantan leII1adap hulan karet
Pengungkapan adaptasi dilakukan melalui pendekalan pelS_ran populasi,
hubungan kehadiran bekantan dengan perairan, vegetasi, pols aktivitas harian,
sumber paka" dan kandungan nutrisi. populasi bekantan dan pengandilan ruang
