1.6.5 Technique of Data Analysis
Structural Approach
The researcher uses the structural approach since the writer analyses about the personality structure of Bree Tanner and focuses on character like round and static
character, conflict such as internal and external conflict. According to Semi, structural approach is the basic assumption that literary work as a creative work has full
autonomy, which has to be seen as a figure, which part from the outside of intrinsic element. First, the researcher will use the structural approach to recognize Bree
Tanner‘s personality as main character of the story. The second, researcher analyze the dilemma and anxiousness of Bree in internal and external conflict, and also how she
trespass and solve the anxiousness on her short second life until the end of the story.
Psychological Approach
Psychological approach is an attempt to study someone‘s personality, not only on how they build their personality but also how the personality develops Hurlock,
1980: 2. In this thesis psychological approach is uses to analyze how the dilemma of
Bree Tanner related to psychological approach from the extrinsic element. In psychological approach how the writer discovered deeply about the personality
structure connected this. The steps are about relating the general description of main character to her external and internal conflict. The second, researcher will analyze the
psychological condition of the main character based on the characteristic and the conflict using the psychological approach to find the resolution.
1.7 Thesis Organization
The thesis organization consists of five chapters. Those chapters are arranged
systematically to present the problem well. Those five chapters consist of:
Chapter I is Introduction consisting of background of the study, statement of the problem, scope of the study, objective of the study, the significance of the study,
methods of the study and thesis organization. Chapter II is Author and Synopsis of the Story. It about Stephenie Meyer‘s
biography and her works. This chapter also contains the synopsis of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner.
Chapter III is Review of Related Literature. This chapter would presents both of the intrinsic of the novel and psychological elements
– anxiety and dilemma experienced by Bree Tanner as the main character of The Short Second Life of Bree
Tanner. Chapter IV is discussion. It discusses about Bree, and some intrinsic elements that
could show what kind of person Bree is and how could the intrinsic element gives impact for her psychology.
Chapter V is Conclusion and Suggestion. This chapter presents the conclusions of the study and also the suggestion.
