113 Appendix 15. A Lesson Plan The researcher provides a lesson plan of the attractive teaching strategy the researcher suggests. It is expected that this lesson plan will be useful for the lecturer to teach defining and non-defining relative clauses. Here is the lesson plan. ENGLISH LANGUAGE EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAM SANATA DHARMA UNIVERSITY A LESSON PLAN Subject : Structure III TopicMeeting : Relative Clauses1 Time Allocation : 100 minutes

A. Indicators:

1. The students are able to identify main clauses and relative clauses. 2. The students are able to differentiate defining relative clauses and non- defining relative clauses. 3. The students are able to indicate relative pronouns and relative adverbs.

B. Activities

No. Activities Duration 1. To begin the lecturer gives a warm-up activity. Singing a song or playing a game with body movement in order to arouse the students’ spirit can start this activity. 5 minutes 2. Next, the lecturer asks and discusses some questions related to the topic in the text given to the students later. This activity is named pre- reading activity. 5 minutes 3. After that, the lecturer asks the students to make a group of three. 3 minutes 4. Then, the lecturer distributes a text containing defining and non-defining relative clauses to each student and asks them to read the text carefully. 2 minutes 114 No. Activities Duration 5. After the students read the text, the lecturer asks the students to draw the situation told in the text. 10 minutes 6. After the students finish drawing, the lecturer asks one or two groups to retell the situation they draw. 5 minutes 7. In order to check their comprehension, the lecturer asks orally the students some questions. 5 minutes 8. Next, the lecturer leads the students to discuss briefly the content of the text talk about. 5 minutes 9. The lecturer explains the theories and the rules of constructing relative clauses including the definition of relative clause, antecedent, relative pronoun and relative adverb; types of relative clause, which are defining and non-defining; types of antecedent, which are personal and non- personal; and kinds of relative pronoun and relative adverb. 15 minutes 10. To make sure whether the students have understood the materials explained, the lecturer asks students to make underline, highlight, circle, or other signs to indicate the defining relative clauses, non-defining relative clauses, the antecedents, the relative pronouns, and the relative adverbs. 3 minutes 11. The lecturer leads the students to briefly discuss their identification. 2 minutes 12. In order to give the students chances to practice constructing defining and non-defining relative clauses, the lecturer gives an exercise. 10 minutes 13. The lecturer and the students discuss the answers of the exercise together. 5 minutes 14. In addition, to create a memorable and unforgetable moment, the lecturer conducts an attractive game. The is expected to support the students easy to memorize defining and non- defining relative clauses materials and to practice constructing defining and non-defining relative clauses. 20 minutes 15. The lecturer invites the students to review the materials the learnt in the class. 5 minutes 115
