Appendix 15. A Lesson Plan The researcher provides a lesson plan of the attractive teaching strategy the
researcher suggests. It is expected that this lesson plan will be useful for the lecturer to teach defining and non-defining relative clauses. Here is the lesson
plan.

1. The students are able to identify main clauses and relative clauses. 2. The students are able to differentiate defining relative clauses and non-

Singing a song or playing a game with body movement in order to arouse the students’ spirit

2. Next, the lecturer asks and discusses some questions related to the topic in the text given to
the students later. This activity is named pre- reading activity.

3. After that, the lecturer asks the students to make a
group of three. 3 minutes
4. Then, the lecturer distributes a text containing
defining and non-defining relative clauses to each student and asks them to read the text carefully.

constructing relative clauses including the definition of relative clause, antecedent, relative
pronoun and relative adverb; types of relative clause, which are defining and non-defining;
types of antecedent, which are personal and non- personal; and kinds of relative pronoun and
relative adverb. 15 minutes
10. To make sure whether the students have understood the materials explained, the lecturer
asks students to make underline, highlight, circle, or other signs to indicate the defining relative
clauses, non-defining relative clauses, the antecedents, the relative pronouns, and the
relative adverbs. 3 minutes
11. The lecturer leads the students to briefly discuss
their identification. 2 minutes
12. In order to give the students chances to practice
constructing defining and non-defining relative clauses, the lecturer gives an exercise.

The lecturer and the students discuss the answers of the exercise together.
5 minutes 14. In addition, to create a memorable and
unforgetable moment, the lecturer conducts an attractive game. The is expected to support the
