Analisis Karakteristik Ornamen Di Masjid Raya Al -Mashun Medan
ABSTRACT
This thesis is inspect visual art on the ornament of Al-mashun mosque in
Medan. Figurative Analysis of shape based concept of the background which is
correlated with the value of artistic and ideology. The writer will see how the
questions will be made as framework to get the aspect of ornament in the AlMashun mosque Medan.
In this thesis the writer use some theories, to get conclusion. They are
semiotic theory and art theory. Based of the theories the writer try to get the
meaning of ornament in Al-Mashun mosque. By collecting the data of ornaments
and classified of shape. Then the writer get the important one is to be research
object.
The writer see behind the beautiful ornaments in Al-Mashun mosque not
only visual value but also have some message. Those the writer get some
statements from the aspect of beauty image on ornaments shape of Al-Mashun
mosque.
The conclusion of this research is characteristic of ornament on the shape
of charismatic statement of Malay Deli culture and also raise the value of Islamic
religion. By the glory and beauty of ornaments shape of Al-Mashun mosque,
people wil amaze and also Sultan Ma’mun Al-Rasyid Perkasa Alamsyah as deli
sultant show his power long time ago.

ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini adalah mengkaji ornamentasi yang terdapat pada masjid AlMashun diwilayah kota Medan Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Analisis figuratif bentuk
berdasarkan latar belakang konsep yang menghubungkan terdapatnya kandungan
nilai-nilai artistik (visual art), nilai-nilai ideologi dan nilai-nilai agama. Peneliti
ingin melihat sebagaimana pertanyaan yang di buat sebagai kerangka arah untuk
mengetahui aspek-aspek yang dihadirkan oleh sejumlah ornamen yang melekat di
masjid Al-Mashun Medan.
Dalam tesis ini penulis menggunakan sejumlah teori terkait untuk
mendapatkan kesimpulan, dan sebagai teori penentu adalah teori semiotika (teori
makna) dan teori seni rupa. Dengan landasan teori ini peneliti berupaya
mendapatkan kandungan makna pada ornamentasi di masjid Al-Mashun. Dengan
pendataan ornamen yang di pilih serta memberikan klasipikasi bentuknya, maka
bagian tersebut menjadi acuan bagi penulis sebagai bahan penelitian.
Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa keindahan ornamen-ornamen
yang melekat pada masjid Al-Mashun di kota Medan tidak hanya sekedar sebagai
nilai visual belaka, tetapi merupakan sebuah fakta bahwa karakteristik
ornamentasi tersebut adalah suatu bentuk pernyataan karismatik Kesultanan Deli
dan budaya Melayu Deli serta sebuah presentatif kecintaan terhadap Tuhan.

Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa keindahan ornamen-ornamen
yang melekat pada masjid Al-Mashun di kota Medan tidak hanya sekedar sebagai
nilai visual belaka, tetapi merupakan sebuah fakta bahwa karakteristik
ornamentasi tersebut adalah suatu bentuk pernyataan karismatik Kesultanan Deli
dan budaya Melayu Deli serta sebuah presentatif kecintaan terhadap Tuhan.
