Normality Test of Pre-test and Post-test Data Significant Difference between Two Means of Pre-test and Post-Test

4.3 Normality Test of Pre-test and Post-test Data

This test is used to know whether the data that will be analyzed have normal distribution or not. Here, the writer used chi-square formula. å = - = k i i i i E E O 1 2 2 c Where: 2 c = chi square i O = observation frequency i E = expected frequency K = the numbers of interval class i = 1, 2, 3, ...., k Sudjana, 2005: 273 The writer compared chi-square value with chi-square table with significance level 5, if χ 2 value χ 2 table , the data is normally distributed. The first data that was be analyzed was taken from the pre-test score of reading comprehension of hortatory exposition text. From the computation the writer got χ 2 value = 2.08; with criteria a = 5 and df = k-1, χ 2 table = 12.59. Because χ 2 value χ 2 table, it can be concluded that the pre-test score of experimental group is normally distributed. Appendix 8 The second data that was be analyzed was taken from the post-test score of reading comprehension of hortatory exposition text. From the computation the writer got χ 2 value of experimental group was 5.48; with criteria a = 5 and df = k-1, χ 2 table = 12.59 Because χ 2 value χ 2 table, it can be concluded that the post-test score of experimental group is normally distributed. Appendix 9 Table 4.1 Normality Test of Pre-test and Post-test Data No. Test χ 2 value χ 2 table Criteria 1. Pre-test 2.08 12.59 Normally distributed 2. Post-test 5.48 12.59 Normally distributed

4.4 Significant Difference between Two Means of Pre-test and Post-Test

To know the significant different between two means of pre-test and post test, the writer did computation as follow: Table 4.2 Significant Difference between Pre-test and Post-Test NO. Therefore, the increase of score from pre-test to post-test was 4.625. This data showed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores.
