A. Problems
The main issues examined in this study is how the history of the existence of Chinatown in Semarang area can be placed in the context of the historical
development of Semarang City at large. Is there interelasi between the emergence and growth of Semarang as a center of government and industrial city in the past with the
existence and development of Chinatown? As a region that once had the strong characteristic values of Chinese culture, is it still can be identified in present time and
how it is done. It also reviewed and analyzed, how and why Chinatown has potential as an area that is very thick with cultural values of China. Any Potential owned
Chinatown in Semarang can be developed and can be used as basic capital for regional arrangement that synergize with economic activities of the society?
B. Objectives and Benefits 1. Objectives
The research objective in the first year is to conduct a historical study of the region and the Chinatown community for identifying the parts of the region that have the
potential to be developed through the spatial arrangement. It can also be carried out identification of community activities related to economic activity, social and cultural.
However, the activity is closely related to spatial place. In line with the spatial identification of activities and community activities, it is also conducted studies of the
government programs that has been implemented in the Chinatown area in the framework of synergyzing with the economic activity of the community.
2. Benefits
a. The results show a clear identification of the position of Chinatown area of the city of Semarang.
b. The composing spatial concept based on economic activity and cultural communities.
c. Culturally, these findings can be exploited as the media to do the conservation, development and dissemination of cultural values which uphold harmony and
the harmony of humans and the environment, to the younger generation as a strategic vehicle to strengthen the integration of Indonesia as a nation and a
major maritime country in the future. d. For the Government of Semarang as a coastal city, in the form of research
models in the Setup Area Pacinan Based Coastal City Culture and Synergize With Community Economic activity can be implemented to make the
arrangement and development of regional and to push community economic activity.
