Quality of life comparison in children with and without functional constipation

ABSTRACT
Background: Constipation is a common problem encountered in children, 40 % of
which occurred in infants and 30 % in school-age children. Constipation can affect
physical, emotional, and social function in school-age children so it will affect quality
of life .
Objective To Compare the quality of life in children with and without functional
constipation
Methods: Comparative study had conducted from December 2013 to January 2014.
Subjects were children aged 8 to 18 years with and without constipation. Subjects
were randomlzed and divided into 2 groups, constipation group ( n = 43 ) , and
without constipation (n = 39) as controls. Assessment of quality of life performed
using PedsQL questionnaire.
Result: As many as 82 children recruited. Male and female with constipation was

25.6% and 74.4% respectively. Male and female without constipation was 28.2%
