Unit one, lesson five e. Let’s read this story.
My last holiday was great. My family and I visited my
grandparents. We traveled by car. Phew! It was a long
trip.
We stayed at my grandparents’ house for four days. We
did a lot of things together. We cooked and prepared

our meals. After that we ate them.
We also worked in the garden, climbed the trees and
played some games. Everybody was happy.
Oh, no. It was time to go home. We hugged grandma
and grandpa and we kissed them goodbye. I really
enjoyed my holiday.

“How about a race?” he asked.
“Ha, ha, ha, ha! A race? Ha, ha, ha, ha!” the hare
laughed at the tortoise.
The kangaroo was the judge.
“Begin here,” he said. “Race to the hill. The first to
reach the top of the hill will be the winner.”
The tortoise walked slowly. The hare ran quickly.
Then the hare decided to rest. The tortoise slowly and
quietly passed the hare.
Some time later, the hare woke up. He quickly ran to
the hill. He was very surprised. The tortoise was
already there!

Boston, 7 November
Dear Meilin,
I went to a Halloween party last week. It was fun. We
all dressed up in many different costumes. Some of us
dressed up in silly costumes and some others in scary
costumes.
My friend, Tina, dressed up in Dora the Explorer’s
costume. She put on a pink T-shirt, brown shorts, white
socks and brown shoes. She did not forget to bring a
backpack.
While Ted, my other friend, dressed up in a Zorro
costume. He put on a black shirt, black trousers, a
black hat, and a black mask. He did not forget to put
on a black cloak and bring a saber.
My sister, Cindy, dressed up in a princess costume. My
mom made her a beautiful dress. She also put on a
tiara on her head. She looked very pretty.
Now, let’s talk about my costume. I used my mom’s
white bed sheet for my costume. I wrapped it all over
my body. My mom made some holes on it for my eyes,
nose, mouth and arms. What costume was it? Yes. It
was a ghost costume.
Is there a Halloween party in your country?
Regards,
Jenny

My dad came home early last night. He kissed my mom
and told her to rest because he wanted to cook dinner.
I helped my dad. We cooked rice and fried chicken. We
also made some vegetable salad.
First, we cooked the rice. Then dad sliced the chicken
and fried it. I sliced the tomatoes and washed the
lettuce.
After 90 minutes, everything was ready. We set the
table. The food looked and smelled good. You know

championship. I practice judo twice a week, on Mondays
and Thursdays.
I usually go swimming on Sundays. I do that with my
sister, Vitri. You know? She swims very well. I’m not
really good at playing basketball but I like it. It’s so much
fun!
I also like listening to music very much. My favorite music
is pop and rock and my favorite singer is Avril Lavigne.

I got up early last Sunday because I wanted to go jogging.
Then I woke my sister up. She really hates getting up
early.
We washed our face and brushed our teeth. Then we put
on our jogging suit and sneakers. Before we went jogging,
we did some warming up first.
After jogging, I helped Mom prepare breakfast. I always
like helping her in the kitchen because she is very good at
cooking. My sister does not like cooking. She helped Dad
wash the car.
In the afternoon we went out. We did some shopping.
Mom likes shopping very much. Dad took us to a
bookstore. My sister and I love going to bookstore. We
both like reading. Dad bought us a comic and a novel.
We stayed at home in the evening. Dad and Mom
watched their favorite program on TV. My sister played
computer games and I read my new novel. After that I
studied and prepared my lessons. Finally I went to bed at
