  The main aim of this research was to find out the correlation between junior high school students’ English national examination score and their reading comprehension at the first grade of SMA N 1 Rembang in academic year 2013/2014. The number of population was 210 students. This research took 25 % of the total population by using lottery. The sample of this research were 53 students. This research used descriptive method that was designed to obtain information concerning the current status phenomena. The researcher used correlation research design to answer the research question. The data was

  collected on 17 -25 of April 2014. The data were documentation and test. The data were junior high school national examination score in the form of educational certificates and reading test at senior high school. The correlation computation was computed by pearson product moment correlation.

  After the data had been analyzed, the result of the analysis showed that the r xy was 0.760. It was higher than r table . The value of r- table was 0.271. It meant that there was significant correlation between junior high school students’ English national examination score and their reading comprehension at the first grade of senior high school. Based on the result of the computation, it could be concluded that it has correlation. By the result of the study it could be implicated that having correlation between them could influence the students to be more diligent and improved their reading. It also influenced the teacher to treat students properly.

  The implication of this study was to give information that junior high school students’ English national examination could be a predictor for their reading skill at senior high school.
