The mastery of Vocabulary Mastery of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus is
still unsatisfying. It is still limited on their ability in knowing the meaning of the
English vocabulary and many students still have low in vocabulary mastery.
Therefore, they have to get a new way to enrich their vocabulary. This situation
make the teacher find a media which enables the students to understand the
meaning of English vocabulary. Picture is one of media that can make the students
master vocabulary easily.
The purpose of this research is to find out the answer from the statement of
the problem. The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a
significant difference of vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students of SMK
PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 before and after being
taught by using Picture.
The subject of this research is the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1
Mejobo Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013. This research is experimental
research. The writer uses experimental design that is one group pretest-pos-test
design. In this research, there are two variables; they are Picture as independent
variable and the mastery of vocabulary of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI
1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 as the dependent variable. The
writer determines the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in the
academic year 2012/2013 as the population and takes X AP as a sample which
consist of 46 students and uses a test to get the accurate data.
The result showed that the vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students
of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus before being taught by using Picture was
categorized sufficient. The mean and standart deviation are 64,10 and 8,05.
Meanwhile, the vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1
Mejobo Kudus after being taught by using Picture was categorized good. The
mean and standart deviation are 75,39 and 9,15. The value of t-observation (to) is
6,50 in the level of significant 0.05 and in the level of significant 0.05 the value of
t-table (tt) is 2,02. Meanwhile the degree of freedom (df) 45 which is gained from
N-1. It is concluded that there is significant difference in the vocabulary mastery
of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in the academic year
2012/2013 before and after being taught by using Picture.
Considering the process and the result of this research, the writer suggests
that the teacher should use interesting media in teaching English especially in the

mastery of vocabulary. The English teacher can use Picture as a media to enrich
the vocabulary mastery because it creates a comfortable non-stressful environment
for learning and prcticing English; the students who take English class can use
Picture as a media to improve their vocabulary mastery because it can help them
learn more, have more fun and develop many other skills; for further researcher, a
similar research can also be conducted to improve the other skills.

Penguasaan kosakata SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus masih tidak
memuaskan. Hal ini masih terbatas pada kemampuan mereka dalam mengetahui
arti dari kosakata Bahasa Inggris dan masih banyak siswa rendah dalam
penguasaan kosakata. Oleh karena itu, mereka harus mendapatkan cara baru untuk
memperkaya kosakata mereka. Situasi ini membuat guru menemukan sebuah
media yang memungkinkan siswa untuk memahami makna koskata Bahasa
Inggris. Gambar adalah salah satu media yang dapat membuat siswa dapat
menguasai kosakata dengan mudah.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jawaban dari rumusan
masalah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada
perbedaan yang signifikan dari penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1
Mejobo Kudus pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013 sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan
dengan menggunakan gambar.
Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus
pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental.
Penulis menggunakan desain eksperimental yang merupakan salah satu kelompok
pretest-pos-test desain. Dalam penelitian ini, ada dua variabel, yaitu gambar
sebagai variabel independen dan penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X SMK PGRI
1 Mejobo Kudus pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013 sebagai variabel dependen. Penulis
menentukan siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus pada tahun akademik
2012/2013 sebagai populasi dan mengambil X AP sebagai sampel yang terdiri
dari 46 siswa dan menggunakan tes untuk mendapatkan data yang akurat.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X
SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus sebelum diajarkan dengan menggunakan gambar
dikategorikan cukup. Rata-rata dan standar deviasi adalah 64,10 dan 8,05.
Sementara itu, penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus
setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan gambar yang dikategorikan baik. Rata-rata
dan standar deviasi adalah 75,39 dan 9,15. Nilai t-observasi (to) adalah 6,50 pada
tingkat 0,05 signifikan dan pada tingkat 0,05 signifikan nilai t-tabel (tt) adalah
2,02. Sedangkan (df) 45 yang diperoleh dari N-1. Hal ini disimpulkan bahwa ada
perbedaan yang signifikan dalam penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X SMK PGRI
1 Mejobo Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013 sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan
dengan menggunakan gambar.
Mengingat proses dan hasil penelitian ini, penulis menyarankan bahwa
guru harus menggunakan media yang menarik dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris

terutama dalam penguasaan kosakata. Para guru bahasa Inggris dapat
menggunakan gambar sebagai media untuk memperkaya penguasaan kosakata
karena ia menciptakan lingkungan non-stres nyaman untuk belajar dan prcticing
bahasa Inggris, para siswa yang mengambil kelas bahasa Inggris dapat
menggunakan gambar sebagai media untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata
mereka karena dapat membantu mereka belajar lebih banyak, lebih
menyenangkan dan mengembangkan keterampilan lain, karena peneliti
selanjutnya, penelitian serupa juga dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan
keterampilan lainnya

The subject of this research is the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1
Mejobo Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013. This research is experimental
research. The writer uses experimental design that is one group pretest-pos-test
design. In this research, there are two variables; they are Picture as independent
variable and the mastery of vocabulary of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI
1 Mejobo Kudus in academic year 2012/2013 as the dependent variable. The
writer determines the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in the
academic year 2012/2013 as the population and takes X AP as a sample which
consist of 46 students and uses a test to get the accurate data.
The result showed that the vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students
of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus before being taught by using Picture was
categorized sufficient. The mean and standart deviation are 64,10 and 8,05.
Meanwhile, the vocabulary mastery of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1
Mejobo Kudus after being taught by using Picture was categorized good. The
mean and standart deviation are 75,39 and 9,15. The value of t-observation (to) is
6,50 in the level of significant 0.05 and in the level of significant 0.05 the value of
t-table (tt) is 2,02. Meanwhile the degree of freedom (df) 45 which is gained from
N-1. It is concluded that there is significant difference in the vocabulary mastery
of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus in the academic year
2012/2013 before and after being taught by using Picture.
Considering the process and the result of this research, the writer suggests
that the teacher should use interesting media in teaching English especially in the

mastery of vocabulary. The English teacher can use Picture as a media to enrich
the vocabulary mastery because it creates a comfortable non-stressful environment
for learning and prcticing English; the students who take English class can use
Picture as a media to improve their vocabulary mastery because it can help them
learn more, have more fun and develop many other skills; for further researcher, a
similar research can also be conducted to improve the other skills.

Penguasaan kosakata SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus masih tidak
memuaskan. Hal ini masih terbatas pada kemampuan mereka dalam mengetahui
arti dari kosakata Bahasa Inggris dan masih banyak siswa rendah dalam
penguasaan kosakata. Oleh karena itu, mereka harus mendapatkan cara baru untuk
memperkaya kosakata mereka. Situasi ini membuat guru menemukan sebuah
media yang memungkinkan siswa untuk memahami makna koskata Bahasa
Inggris. Gambar adalah salah satu media yang dapat membuat siswa dapat
menguasai kosakata dengan mudah.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui jawaban dari rumusan
masalah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada
perbedaan yang signifikan dari penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1
Mejobo Kudus pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013 sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan
dengan menggunakan gambar.
Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus
pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimental.
Penulis menggunakan desain eksperimental yang merupakan salah satu kelompok
pretest-pos-test desain. Dalam penelitian ini, ada dua variabel, yaitu gambar
sebagai variabel independen dan penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X SMK PGRI
1 Mejobo Kudus pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013 sebagai variabel dependen. Penulis
menentukan siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus pada tahun akademik
2012/2013 sebagai populasi dan mengambil X AP sebagai sampel yang terdiri
dari 46 siswa dan menggunakan tes untuk mendapatkan data yang akurat.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X
SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus sebelum diajarkan dengan menggunakan gambar
dikategorikan cukup. Rata-rata dan standar deviasi adalah 64,10 dan 8,05.
Sementara itu, penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X SMK PGRI 1 Mejobo Kudus
setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan gambar yang dikategorikan baik. Rata-rata
dan standar deviasi adalah 75,39 dan 9,15. Nilai t-observasi (to) adalah 6,50 pada
tingkat 0,05 signifikan dan pada tingkat 0,05 signifikan nilai t-tabel (tt) adalah
2,02. Sedangkan (df) 45 yang diperoleh dari N-1. Hal ini disimpulkan bahwa ada
perbedaan yang signifikan dalam penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas X SMK PGRI
1 Mejobo Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013 sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan
dengan menggunakan gambar.
Mengingat proses dan hasil penelitian ini, penulis menyarankan bahwa
guru harus menggunakan media yang menarik dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris

terutama dalam penguasaan kosakata. Para guru bahasa Inggris dapat
menggunakan gambar sebagai media untuk memperkaya penguasaan kosakata
karena ia menciptakan lingkungan non-stres nyaman untuk belajar dan prcticing
bahasa Inggris, para siswa yang mengambil kelas bahasa Inggris dapat
menggunakan gambar sebagai media untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata
mereka karena dapat membantu mereka belajar lebih banyak, lebih
menyenangkan dan mengembangkan keterampilan lain, karena peneliti
selanjutnya, penelitian serupa juga dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan
keterampilan lainnya
