I. Marketing Analysis
1.1 Foods Packaging
When I visited Japan in July 2017, the first thing I really admire is how professional Japanese society is in doing
business. Although businesses that run are small-scale businesses or SMEs, they are able to provide services
and products that are very high quality and look expensive. I myself as a middle-scale businessman very
impressed with what is served by SMEs in Japan, ranging from hygiene, products, to the packaging is noticed
by the businessmen in Japan, do not be surprised if the price is set in Japan more expensive than in Indonesia.
Competition in the area of Nakamise Dori was fairly healthy, because the price of a product in Japan is
regulated by the Japanese Government itself, so that no one businessman who can kill other similar businesses
by slamming prices or by other means. Due to the existence of these rules, the tourists feel safe because they
will not be fooled by price issues when buying anything in Japan.
The most interesting thing for me is the food packaging in the area of Nakamise Dori, as a businessman, I know
that the packaging is not too important and well thought by the sellers and buyers, because the packaging only
provides added value but does not have a meaningful value that is very meaningful, packaging is basically just
a cover of a product to protect the product which will eventually only be discarded, not for consumption.
However, all products in Japan from cheap to expensive have very good, neat, and unique packaging. This is
the attraction for everyone who sees and makes the desire to buy higher.
After I visited Japan, my mind became more open to think about making a good and attractive packaging,
because indirectly it can make a marketing strategy for our own business. When we have the same product
with other competitors, but we have a more attractive packaging compared to competitors, then our business
will be more seen by consumers, although the price offered would be different considering the packaging
requires a considerable cost depending on the materials used.
As far as I found and had time to buy it, every food seller in Japan has a customized packaging in accordance
with his shop, unlike in Indonesia, which usually just wrap the food with a general packaging that can be
purchased anywhere without any name of the store. In addition, the packaging of each food is made as
attractive as possible and consists of a variety of beautiful colors, the packaging is very keeping the product so
as not to fall apart between one product with another product. It can be said as a marketing strategy of the
businessman in Japan to consumers aware of the product so that when consumers have tried their food and
feel interested to buy again, packaging will play a role because it has the necessary information for its
customers.
1.2 Foods Cooked on The Spot
In the location of Asakusa street are met by unique food vendors, they sell a variety of foods ranging from
meat, snacks such as potatoes and roasted corn and also very fresh drinks such as orange juice, melon juice
and others. Being different and making the unit also makes us want to try the food and drink they sell, they
make food directly on the premises so that the visitors can see how to cook and how to process it until the
food is finished. I was amazed that the cleanliness and quality of the food and beverages that are sold there
are so hygienic and clean, it makes something different from the food vendors in Indonesia, and the way the
Japanese cook very fast and thoroughly proves that Japanese people are very disciplined and always right
time, although I queue long enough but I still wait in line because I feel curious about the taste of the food
they sell, and it turns out really tasty and tasty taste like MSG. There is in pity according to my personal story is
the price they sell for food at Asakusa location is quite expensive compared to me buy street food food in
Indonesia.
Which makes me feel more comfortable and get something different with the discipline of the disciplined
Japanese people is after we buy the food that is in Asakusa we immediately find a seat in the area of a unique
food court, surrounded by various types of food and unique decoration typical japan in the area of his food
court makes me and my friends feel at home lingering here. After we finish eating with the Japanese culture
that is already inherent in the minds of Japanese brains, they bring their own food scraps and thrown away at
the place that has been prepared.
II. Cultural Analysis
2.1 Sensoji Temple dan Asakusa Shrine
Japan is a very famous city with a very strong culture. When visiting Sensoji Temple and Asakusa Shrine, I see
how Japanese people really believe in Japanese culture. Although they have no religion (trusting the Sun as
their Lord), but Japanese society strongly believes in the existing culture of its ancestors.
Sensoji Temple is a very popular temple in Japan, where it is seen how the Japanese Buddhist flock in a very
orderly manner. Sensoji temple is also the oldest Buddhist temple in Japan and is often used as a venue for
annual events in Japan. When we went to Japan I also saw the annual fireworks festival in Japan at Asakusa
Temple, at that time everyone came there using Japanese traditional clothes that is kimono. The situation in
Asakusa Temple is so full that many people cannot get inside because of overload and in the end just bias
watching the fireworks festival from the outside.
The culture still inherent in Japanese people to date when they visited the temple was first wash their hands
and wash their faces and then they went upstairs to perform a culture of worship by ringing a bell hanging in
front of the worship.
My admiration is that religious festivals are considered very important to the Japanese society which is already
fairly modern, but the discipline and its adherence to religion still does not fade.
2.2 Japanese Culture
Discipline and tolerance. Those are the words that can describe how the Japanese live. Very different from the
discipline that Indonesians have such as the example of Japanese people always waiting their turn in crossing
the road, they are waiting for the green light signals for their new pedestrians to cross the road, far away in
Indonesia where people ignore the lights for crossing the road, his results in Indonesia many accidents due to
less orderly in using zebra cross or crossing bridge that has been prepared. And other examples I am amazed
and impressed when I use the escalator at the train station or in the shopping center in japan city, they use the
stairs running on the left side of their sign they are relaxed and not in a hurry, and the right side they use to
people who are chasing time and used to run and walk on the stairs, it makes me very impressed so orderly his
Japanese people.
As I and my friends walk in the city of Japan I see the pedestrians in an orderly manner following the rules that
exist like in a large alley of pedestrians following the direction of currents that have been in temple on the
floor when at that moment the direction of the road I was headed so crowded and full but opposite the
opposite direction so empty, but with the discipline of the Japanese they walk in the direction that has been
determined and do not use the way the reverse direction is empty. For us the smokers were already in the
smoking area so not arbitrary people in Japan can casually smoke anywhere because they have a very unique
rule that we are actually not prohibited to smoke in any place and there is no law for people who smoke
outside smoking area but the view of the Japanese people who smoke us not in his place is very ugly and
assumes we have no ethics and full of hatred.
Japanese people are great fun and helpful to each other looks a lot of people Japan help grandparents on the
way up and down stairs at the train station or in the shopping center. This proves that the Japanese people are
very concerned and priority to the grandparents who have been aged.
When I used the train transportation facilities to go wherever, I often see the Japanese people are very
prioritize parents who are old and people who are sick so that people who have not been allowed to stand in
the train but they are given the opportunity to sit despite the seat which is full, it really makes me think why in
the country Indonesia is not biased like that. After I got off the train at the station that I was headed with a
crowded condition because along with the time people came home from my office I still felt very high
discipline there I did not feel crowded because their discipline culture stood in line when up or down the stairs.
There are things that make me feel safe and calm, in the city of japan almost no loss of goods in any form so
that I feel safe and comfortable at wherever I am despite the crowded situation. As I walked in the middle of
the night to the mini market of the hotel I was staying I found there was a drunk man and the man was lying
on the sidewalk but because the Japanese state is safe without the thief the man does not lose the valuables
they carry, I am strange is the people who crossed the man just saw no help given and thought to take the
man's goods.
III. Company Visit
3.1 Shin Koto Incineration Plant
On the second day me and my friends are in japan city, i visited a big company in japan city that is company
that engage in recycle garbage, me and my friends also given explanation about what is recycle garbage
company and i invite to surround the company from seeing the workers who work 24 hours nonstop without
stopping to see the garbage cars that come and throw his garbage in a large container, from there I was
invited to see the next process is the smelting of garbage that had been brought by garbage truck to ashes
which will then be processed in the next stage. The Japanese state so think about the cleanliness of his country
to the extent that the garbage in their country was recycled in order to be a good or something useful instead
of garbage that actually pile up into an unpleasant smell and create a flood disaster, this Japanese country very
clean up to places like the alley was not found any scattered rubbish, this also makes me feel comfortable and
very proud I can feel the tourists in the country japan.
In Shin Koto incineration plant we were welcomed by the workers there and they also hope that in the country
of Indonesia can make a waste processing company to our country farthest from flood and comfortable
disaster without any waste.
3.2 Toyota Mega Web
On the third day, me and my friends visited the automotive museum that has the Toyota brand, there are so
many found products made by Toyota automotive manufacturers and a lot of cars with long years even the
first car made by Toyota, as for cars used racing like Toyota Celica used for rally racing. Not only displaying
racing cars for the rally but for circuit racing and drifting races. There are also many other advanced
technologies that exist in this Toyota mega web, such as Otoped, electric and others. Here I get a lot of
knowledge about engine, interior, exterior of Toyota car which initially I do not know anything matter of car,
including the user of Toyota output car this therefore curiosity to know to any component what used for it,
clearly even a lot of cars on display but in parts of his machine is made transparent with the aim that the
visitors can know the contents of the machine. What makes it even more interesting in this Toyota mega web
is provided car racing games that are felt like real or real drives in the car's wheelhouse, even the visitors
willingly stand in line to try this car racing game including me. There also sell accessories such as Tomica toy
display automotive Toyota, Toyota is very famous in the city assembler of this car even almost all the Japanese
population using Toyota cars and according to information I get turns out most of the Japanese population
using Toyota brand. I was very impressed because there are so many Toyota cars I have never seen in
Indonesia but there is real display on this mega web. The purpose and my goals and my friends visit this
Toyota mega web is that we all understand and understand how the components used by automotive industry
Toyota, and also that we know it turns out Toyota is a lot of models with designs that are not traded in
Indonesia. At Toyota Mega Web is provided various kinds of playground.
3.3 Science Square Tsukuba
In Science Square Tsukuba which is more or less traveled by road from Tokyo about 2 hours’ drive and upon
my me and my friends there I was directly given like a sign or a guest sign hanging on my neck. After being
given an explanation was id card that hung on my neck it has a function as a hearing tool for explanations that
exist in Science Square Tsukuba. It turns out that I am amazed again is at the end of the id card that there is a
small hole that later will be close to our ears and will cause the sound and id card must be directed to the tool
that hangs above, it turns out the media they use is through the device infrared and any explanations of the
existing technology in Science Square Tsukuba. Inside there are so many Japanese-made robots that can move
and walk but the thing I like most is a baby robot that behaves like a native baby who has to be groomed and
taken care of. Elsewhere there is a place to split rocks of great size, like rocks in the mountains. In the vicinity
of Science Square Tsukuba has a clean, safe, comfortable, there is a large lake and indeed the atmosphere
there is still like the atmosphere in the village.
