Skill : Mechanical Engineering Design - CAD (CADD)
Task: Day-1, Reverse engineering from physical model
INTRODUCTION
Your company has received permission from the parent company to manufacture and sell YYYYY under
license. The first step in the process is to reverse engineering all parts.

DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT OF DAY-1
After you have reviewed the YYYYY, you measure, sketch it (if necessary), create model all the parts and
then produce working drawing. You have to create a rendered image also.
The physical component will be removed after 2.5 hours or finished 3D of all parts.
Total given time is 6 hours.

EQUIPMENT ALLOWED (IN ACCORDANCE TO TOOL LIST)
Caliper (vernier/ dial/ digital) 150 or 200 mm (0.01 mm), thread/ screw pitch gauge (metric and whitworth)
and radii gauge (1-7 mm, 7.5-15 mm and 15.5-25).

INSTRUCTIONS TO THE STUDENT
SKETCH AND MODEL THE PART

1. If necessary, create sketches on paper.
2. Use the following information to assist with measurement process.
i.
Radii and chamfers 0.3 mm or less are not required.
ii.
Neglect any surface irregularities.
3. Create 3D model of all parts and save it using the competition file naming convention.

CREATE DRAWING
1. Create working drawing of all parts in a single IDW file.
2. To complete the drawing:
i.
All annotation styles according to ISO standards, use standard scale (1:1), using a detail
view for small parts are allowed.
ii.
Dimension as required for manufacturing.
iii.
All dimensions should be placed using two decimal place.
iv.
Dimensional tolerances as required. Note: the part was machined with medium tolerances.

v.
Add surface texture symbols
vi.
Save the file using competition file naming conventions.
vii.
Print it in the separate paper for each part, sheet sizes A3
viii.

CREATE 2D ASSEMBLY DRAWING
The guidance of 2D assembly drawing are :
i.
The number of views should be sufficient to discribe the model
ii.
Put the maximum angle dimension of opening handle.
iii.
Put the part list, the column of the part list are Item, Qty., Part Name, Material and

CREATE 3D RENDERED IMAGE
Using Inventor Studio, create rendered image as follows:
iv.
Unspecified scale
v.
Image size: 1024 x 768
vi.
Select a Camera, Lighting style, and Scene Style to best represent the part
vii.
Save the file using the competition file naming convention.

CREATE FUNCTIONAL ANIMATION VIDEO
Using Inventor Studio, create a functional animation video as follows:

i.
The video must be show the functional of the model, make it transparent to show clearly
ii.
Video format is AVI or WMV
iii.
Video size: 1024 x 768
iv.
Maximum video lenght is 12 seconds

Save the file using the competition file naming convention.

Print out you working drawing and rendered images in the same paper .
