MOTTO

Life means to have something define to do - a mission to fulfill - and in the
measure in which we avoid setting our life to something we make it empty.
Human life, by its very nature, has to be dedicated to something.
(J.O. Gasset)

Life is short, so learn from your mistakes and stand behind the choice that you
make. Don’t let the day go by in doubt, the answer lies within.
(John Petrucci)

ABSTRACT

The thesis is entitled Translation Methods Used In Translating
Terence Blacker’s Story Book In Control, Ms Wiz? into Semua Terkendali,
Ms Wiz? by Rosi L.Simamora. It has two objectives. First, it is aimed at
finding out the translation method used in the story book In Control, Ms
Wiz? which is translated into Semua Terkendali, Ms Wiz?. Second, it is
aimed at finding out the reasons of the methods that are used in translating
the story book.
Documentation method and sampling was used in collecting the data.
The data collected were analyzed by reading the both versions of the story
book, classifying each sentence according to the translation methods and
explaining why the sentences are included into each translation method.
There are 125 out of 507 sentences in the story book In Control, Ms
Wiz? into Semua Terkendali, Ms Wiz?. The translation methods which are
used in translating In Control, Ms Wiz? into Semua Terkendali, Ms Wiz?
story book are: word for word translation (24,8%), literal translation
(20,8%), faithful translation (3,2%), semantic translation (10,4%), free
translation (39,2%), and communicative translation (1,6%).
As the result, the translator often uses free translation method to
translate the story book. Because free translation method makes the readers
understand the meaning in the story book.
