Isi Bahasan
• Latar Belakang Budaya Akademik – Era 1970-an
• Perjalanan Transformasi Diri – Era 1990-an
• FTI – ITB mengenal ABET: impossible
• Proyek QUE
• Proyek PHK – I
• Membangun niat & tekad

Latar Belakang
Budaya Akademik
Budaya lama yang belum compatible
dengan akreditasi internasional
Atmosfir Akademik Era 70-an
• Dosen ‘penguasa absolut’ di domain akademiknya
• Sistem tidak sanggup melakukan intervensi di
wilayah akademik dosen
• Kuliah adalah milik dosen, bukan milik institusi;
kapan daftar nilai akademik diumumkan (?),
sepenuhnya ditentukan oleh dosen
• Rata-rata lama studi mantap di atas 7 tahun
• Belum ada sistem akreditasi; tidak perlu standar
karena lulusan sudah terbukti selalu mendapat
pekerjaan, posisi yang bagus dan terkenal selalu
‘berprestasi’
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017
4
Atmosfir Akademik Era 90-an
• FTI – ITB, dengan biaya Dikti, mengunjungi dan
mencoba belajar ttg ABET dengan mengikuti
workshop ABET di Maryland – USA
• Kesimpulan:
• Impossible untuk bisa memperoleh akreditasi ABET
• Cita-cita memperoleh akreditasi ABET terkubur
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017
5
Atmosfir Akademik Era 90-an
• BAN berdiri 1994
• tidak semua prodi di ITB siap untuk diakreditasi, bahkan
sebagian merasa tidak perlu,
• ‘we are the standard and hence do not need accreditation’
• tidak mengherankan ada prodi yang memperoleh nilai C
di ITB
• Sistem insentif (reward) kepada prodi
diperkenalkan oleh Dikti:
• Que-project, dengan syarat akreditasi prodi: A

QUE – PHK Project

• world class department, internationally accredited by
world known accreditation body
• ABET menjadi pilihan bersama, melalui diskusi panjang
selama menjalankan QUE-PROJECT
• PHK – Project 2004 – 2007
• ABET mulai menjadi pembicaraan harian karena
merupakan janji akhir proyek PHK - I
• Disadari sepenuhnya bahwa itu adalah janji yang amat
berat, harus ada perubahan budaya, ada tambahan
pekerjaan namun tidak ada jaminan akan ada tambahan
insentif.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO
• be familiar with ABET and their general
philosophy and terminology of outcome-based
management
• be familiar with the Program Educational
Objectives, Outcomes, and Assessment Matrix as
published on the web.
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017
35
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO
• have a clear set of published course learning
objectives. If it is a course with design content,
the instructor should identify the design
objectives along with appropriate evidence
(i.e. samples of student work).
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017
36
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO
• collect assessment data which can in principle be
evaluated to determine the degree to which the
course learning objectives are being met.
• evaluate the assessment data relative to the
course objectives and make recommendations for
course improvement which might involve actions
by instructor himself, faculty teaching other
courses, or administration.
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017
37
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO
• All of the above must be documented for external review
by the ABET examiner.
• Faculty already carry out most of the above activities. The
new feature is that now this all must be documented.
• For this purpose each instructor will be asked to maintain
a Course Notebook which, for each term the course is
offered, will contain:
• (1) Course syllabus with well-identified course learning objectives,
• (2) a sampling of assessment data including but not limited to:
exams, quizzes, reports, student evaluations, etc.,
• (3) a brief (or not) analysis and evaluation of the assessment data,
• (4) recommendations for course improvement, and
• (5) an action plan with follow-up record of actions.
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017

The History of FIT
• FIT was established in 1973. But almost all degree
programs in FIT have started their academic
activities years before.
• After several changes, until December 2005, FIT
consists of 7 departments: Aeronautical Engineering,
Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
Engineering Physics, Mechanical & Material
Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Informatics
Engineering.
• Reorganization took place again in early 2006; the
management of resources and programs was shifted
from departments to faculties/schools. The Dean
holds the authority to carry out the entire academic
activities.
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017
54

nation’s competitiveness.
• To expand and maintain international cooperation
networks with overseas reputable universities in
education (i.e. conducting double degree programs
and student exchange programs) and research.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO
• be familiar with ABET and their general
philosophy and terminology of outcome-based
management
• be familiar with the Program Educational
Objectives, Outcomes, and Assessment Matrix as
published on the web.
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017
35
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO
• have a clear set of published course learning
objectives. If it is a course with design content,
the instructor should identify the design
objectives along with appropriate evidence
(i.e. samples of student work).
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017
36
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO
• collect assessment data which can in principle be
evaluated to determine the degree to which the
course learning objectives are being met.
• evaluate the assessment data relative to the
course objectives and make recommendations for
course improvement which might involve actions
by instructor himself, faculty teaching other
courses, or administration.
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017
37
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO
• All of the above must be documented for external review
by the ABET examiner.
• Faculty already carry out most of the above activities. The
new feature is that now this all must be documented.
• For this purpose each instructor will be asked to maintain
a Course Notebook which, for each term the course is
offered, will contain:
• (1) Course syllabus with well-identified course learning objectives,
• (2) a sampling of assessment data including but not limited to:
exams, quizzes, reports, student evaluations, etc.,
• (3) a brief (or not) analysis and evaluation of the assessment data,
• (4) recommendations for course improvement, and
• (5) an action plan with follow-up record of actions.
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017

The History of FIT
• FIT was established in 1973. But almost all degree
programs in FIT have started their academic
activities years before.
• After several changes, until December 2005, FIT
consists of 7 departments: Aeronautical Engineering,
Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering,
Engineering Physics, Mechanical & Material
Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Informatics
Engineering.
• Reorganization took place again in early 2006; the
management of resources and programs was shifted
from departments to faculties/schools. The Dean
holds the authority to carry out the entire academic
activities.
Workshop Nasional Strategi Meraih Akreditasi Internasional, 18 - 19 April 2017
