ABSTRACT

Bernadette Tifanny Pramelia Putri. C0311008. A Translation Analysis of Verb + Noun

Lexical Collocation in the Novel Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

2016. Thesis: English Department, Faculty of Cultural Sciences. Sebelas Maret University,

Surakarta.

   The objectives of this research are (1) to find out the translation techniques used by

  translator to translate verb + noun lexical collocations, (2) to find out the accuracy and acceptability of the translation of verb + noun lexical collocations.

  This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research since thedataare in the formsof words. The data for this researchare 132 verb + noun lexical English collocations as found in the novel Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, a novel by Rick Riordan and and its Indonesian version Percy Jackson dan Dewa

  • – Dewi Olylmpia: Pencuri Petir.

  The research findings show that: (1) there are five translation techniques. They are established equivalent (122 data or 94,42%), transposition (5 data or 3,78%), literal translation (2 data or 1,51 %), modulation (2 data or 1,51%), and generalization (1 data or 0,75%), (2) In the terms of the quality of translation, (a) from the accuracy point of view, 127 data or 96,21% data are accurate, three data or 2,45% data are less accurate, two data or 0,75% data are inaccurate; (b) from the acceptability point of view, 128 data or 96,90% data are acceptable, two data or 1,51% data are less acceptable, and two data or 1,51% data are non acceptable; (c) the most accurate technique is established equivalent which contributes the major data (119 data) of 127 accurate data. The least accurate technique is literal translation which contributes the whole data of 2 inaccurate data; (d) the most acceptable technique is established equivalent which contributes the major data (120 data) of 128 acceptable data. The least acceptable technique is literal translation which contributes the whole data of 2 non acceptable data.

  This research findings show, the using of the established equivalent, transposition, literal translation, modulation, and generalization technique for translating verb + noun lexical collocations in the novel Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief influence the translation quality. The majority data of established equivalent produce 93,70% accurate translation and 98,36% acceptable translation. The whole data of transposition, modulation, and generalization produce100% accurate and acceptable translation. The whole data of literal translation produce 100% inaccurate translation and non acceptable translation. To sum up, the majority of the the translation of verb + noun lexcial collocations in the novel Percy Jackson and

  The Olympians: The Lightning Thief are accurate and acceptable.

  Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk (1) menemukan teknik terjemahan yang digunakan penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan kolokasi leksikal verb + noun, (2) menemukan tingkat keakuratan dan keberterimaan terjemahan kolokasi leksikal verb + noun.

  Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif karena datanya berbentuk kata- kata. Total data penelitian ini berjumlah 132 data yang kesemuanya merupakan kolokasi leksikal

  verb + noun.

  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) terdapat lima teknik penerjemahan, yaitu: kesepadanan lazim (122 data or 94,42%), transposisi (5 data or 3,78%), terjemahan harafiah (2 data atau 1,51 %), modulasi (2 data or 1,51%), and generalisasi (1 data atau 0,75%), (2) dalam hal kualitas terjemahan, (a) dari sudut pandang keakuratan, 127 data or 96,21% data akurat, 3 data atau 2,45% data kurang akurat, 2 data atau 1,51% data tidak akurat; (b) dari sudut pandang keberterimaan,128 data atau 96,90% data berterima, 2 data atau 1,51% datakurang berterima, and 2 data atau 1,51% data tidak berterima; (c) teknik yang paling akurat adalah kesepadanan lazim (119 data) dari 127 data. Teknik yang paling tidak akurat adala terjemahan harafiah yang mengkontribusikan semua dari 2 data tidak akurat; (d) teknik yang paling berterima adalah kesepadanan lazim (120 data) dari 128 data berterima. Teknik yang paling tidak berterima adalah terjemahan harafiah yang mengkontribusikan semua data dari 2 data tidak akurat.

  Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan teknik penerjemahan kesepadanan lazim, transposisi, terjemahan harafiah, modulasi, dan generalisasi dalam menerjemahkan kolokasi leksikal verb + noun mempengaruhi kualitas terjemahan. Mayoritas data yang menggunakan teknik kesepadanan lazim menghasilkan 93,70% terjemahan yang akurat dan berterima. Seluruh data yang menggunakan teknik transposisi, modulasi, dan generalisasi menghasilkan 100% terjemahan yang aurat dan berterima. Seluruh data yang menggunakan teknik terjemahan harafiah menghasilkan 100% terjemahan yang tidak akurat dan tidak berterima. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa mayoritas hasil terjemahan memiliki tingkat keakuratan dan keberterimaan yang tinggi.
