Grammatical structure is important element to compose a good writing.
With accurate grammar especially in using verbs, we can compose a writing
paragraph in all kinds of text. Moreover in recount text, the form of verbs will be
changed into past form of regular and irregular verbs. It makes confused and still
difficult to apply both of them, especially in irregular verbs. Irregular verbs are
the most difficult verbs when we apply in writing recount text. Therefore, we have
to master irregular verbs by memorizing them firstly then we can write recount
text easily. In fact, the students who got good score in writing recount text, mostly
they were good in mastery of irregular verbs, and also vice versa. Because of that
matter, the writer is curious about the mastery of irregular verbs and the ability of
writing recount text.
This research is aimed at finding out whether the mastery of irregular
verbs significantly correlates with the ability of writing recount text of the eighth
grade students of MTs N 1 Kudus in academic year 2013/2014.
The writer conducted a correlational research. The sample is VIII A class
which consists of 30 students. The sample is taken by cluster random sampling
technique. Test is used as the instrument of this research. There are two kinds of
test to gather data; completion tests that consist of 25 items to get the data of

students’ irregular verbs mastery and essay test of recount text to get the students’
achievement in writing recount text.
The result of the research showed that the mean for the mastery of
irregular verbs score 80, and the standard deviation 9.87. From the data of mean,
it could be categorized an excellent criterion. Then, the mean for the ability of
writing recount text was 77.63, and the standard deviation 5.104. From the data of
mean, it was also categorized a good criterion. From those data, the writer got the
index correlation; rxy was 0.63, it was high correlation. the rxy was not equal 0
(rxy≠0). That data showed that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the
alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. So the writer concluded that the mastery
of irregular verbs significantly correlates with the ability of writing recount text of
the eighth grade students of MTs N 1 Kudus in academic year 2013/2014.
Based on the result of the research, the students should study more and
understand about the grammar especially in applying verbs. They should also
practice in many times in order to train their ability in writing recount text. Then,
teacher as facilitator should be able to give the need of the students in any
material moreover in grammar that can build the writing ability.

Struktur tata bahasa merupakan komponen penting untuk sebuah tulisan
yang baik. Dengan ketepatan struktur tata bahasa terutama dalam penggunaan kata
kerja, kita dapat menyusun sebuah tulisan paragraf di berbagai macam-macam
teks. Bahkan dalam teks recount, bentuk dari kata kerja akan di ubah menjadi
bentuk lampau dari kata kerja beraturan dan tidak beraturan. Hal ini
membingungkan dan masih sulit untuk menggunakan kedua bentuk tersebut,
terutama penggunaan kata kerja tidak beraturan. Kata kerja tidak beraturan adalah
kata kerja yang paling sulit ketika kita mengaplikasikan ke dalam teks tulisan
recount. Maka dari itu, kita harus menguasai kata kerja tidak beraturan dengan
cara menghafalkan terlebih dahulu kemudian kita dapat menulis teks recount
dengan mudah. Pada kenyataannya, siswa-siswi yang mendapat nilai baik dalam
menulis teks recount, kebanyakan dari mereka mendapat nilai baik dalam
penguasaan kata kerja tidak beraturan, dan juga sebaliknya. Maka dari itu, penulis
ingin mengetahui tentang penguasaan dari kata kerja tidak beraturan dan
kemampuan dari menulis teks recount.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan apakah penguasaan kata kerja
tidak beraturan berkorelasi secara signifikan dengan kemempuan dari menulis
teks recount oleh kelas delapan MTs N 1 Kudus tahun pelajaran 2013/2014.
Penulis telah melaksanakan sebuah penelitian korelasi dengan sampelnya
adalah VIII A yang terdiri dari 30 siswa dan diambil dengan cara teknik sampel
kelompok secara acak. Instrument yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah tes.
Ada dua tes untuk menggumpulkan data ini, yaitu tes isian singkat yang terdiri
atas 25 soal untuk mendapatkan data dari siswa untuk penguasaan kata kerja tidak
beraturan dan tes menulis teks untuk mendapatkan data dari siswa dalam
pencapaian menulis teks recount.
Hasil penelitian telah menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata untuk
penguasaan kata kerja tidak beraturan adalah 80, dan standar deviasi 9.87. Dari
data rata-rata tersebut itu dapat di kategorikan kriteia baik sekali. Kemudian, ratarata dari kemampuan menulis teks recount adalah 77.63, dan standar deviasi
5.104. Dari data rata-rata tersebut, itu dapat dikategorikan criteria baik.
Berdasarkan data-data tersebut penulis memperoleh indeks korelasi dengan
korelasi tinggi rxy adalah 0.63. rxy tidak sama dengan 0 (rxy≠0). Data telah
menunjukkan bahwa hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) di

terima. Maka penulis menyimpulkan bahwa penguasaan kata kerja tidak beraturan
berkorelasi secara signifikan dengan kemempuan dari menulis teks recount oleh
kelas delapan MTs N 1 Kudus tahun pelajaran 2013/2014.
Berdasarkan pada hasil penelitian, siswa-siswi sebaiknya belajar lebih
banyak dan memahami tentang tata bahasa terutama dalam mengaplikasikan kata
kerja. Mereka juga sebaiknya parktek lebih banyak lagi untuk melatih
kemampuan mereka di dalam menulis teks recount. Kemudian guru sebagai
fasilitator sebaiknya dapat memberikan kebutuhan siswa di berbagai macam
materi terlebih di dalam materi tata bahasa yang dapat membangun dalam
kemampuan menulis.
