ABSTRAK
Judul skripsi ini adalah An Analysis Morality Reflected by Main Character in
Winston Groom’s Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump adalah sebuah novel karya seorang
penulis asal Amerika bernama Winston Groom. Novel ini bercerita tentang
perjalanan hidup seorang lelaki dengan segala kebaikannya. Dan ada juga beberapa
karakter yang menggambarkan perilaku tidak baik. Perilaku baik dan buruk
seseorang di kenal dengan sebutan moral. Moral dapat di lihat dari tingkahlaku dan
sifat seseorang. Standar dari penilaian tindak moral yaitu bisa lewat kebiasaan atau
adat, norma, agama dan hukum yang berlaku dalam masyarakat tersebut. Strandar
moral ini dibuat untuk membuat manusia hidup lebih baik dan bahagia. Inti dari
skripsi ini yaitu menganalisis tentang perilaku baik dan buruk secara moralitas lewat
karakter dalam novel forrest gump dan untuk menemukan bagaimana moralitas itu
dapat memberikan kebahagiaan untuk semua orang. Tingkah laku yang baik dan
buruk di dalam novel ini digambarkan melalui tiga karakter yaitu Forrest Gump,
Jenny Curran, dan Dan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penulisan skripsi ini adalah
metode analisis kualitatif deskriptif dan teori yang digunakan dalam novel ini adalah
teori Jeremy Bentham.

ABSTRACT
The title of this thesis is An Analysis Morality Reflected by Main Characters
in Winston Groom’s Novel Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump is one of the literary works
by American novelist named Winston Groom. This novel tells about the life journey
of a man with all his kindness. Some characters also show bad conduct. Good and
bad conduct of someone always known as morality. Morality of someone can be seen
from their conduct and behavior. The standard of judge moral conduct is by habit or
custom, norm, religion and law which are exist in one region or group of society. The
standard of moral have done by human just for make the human can life much better
and get happiness. This thesis analyzes about the good and bad conduct from
characters in novel Forrest Gump and to find out how the morality can bring the
happiness for everyone. The goodness and badness is described by three characters,
they are Forrest Gump, Jenny Curran, and Dan. Method which is used in writing this
thesis is qualitative descriptive method and the theory that used in analyze the novel
is Theory of Jeremy Bentham.
