Ketahanan Fiber Plastic Composite (FPC) terhadap Organisme Penggerek di Laut (Marine Borer)

ABSTRACT
SARI DELVIANA MARBUN: Durability of Fiber Plastic Composite (FPC) to
Marine Borer Attack, supervised by LUTHFI HAKIM and RIDWANTI
BATUBARA.

Fiber Plastic Composite (FPC) is one of biocomposite products consists of
fiber lignocellulosic materials as filler and plastic as adhesive. In this research,
FPC made from recycle polypropilene and old corrugated paper fibre. The
purpose of this research were to evaluate durability the physical properties,
measure weight loss and intensity of the attacks in marine borer after being
soaked for six months in the harbour of Belawan. This research use completely
randomized factorial design, 2 factors: compositions polyprophylene and fiber
(50:50, 60:40 and 70:30) and type of plastic (recycled once and recycled more
than once). The results compare with JIS A 5905-2003 hardboard S20, JIS A
5908-2003 particleboards type 13 and SNI 01-7207-2006.
The results showed that the physical properties of FPC fulfill standard JIS A
5905-2003 hardboard S20 and JIS A 5908-2003 particleboards type 13 after
being soaked in the sea for six months except moisture content. Even so, the
moisture content for PP 70:30 (recycled once and recycled more than once) still
fulfill JIS A 5905-2003 hardboard S20 and JIS A 5908-2003 particleboards type
13. Moreover, the resistance FPC of against marine borer attack (weight loss and

intensity of the attacks) fulfill SNI 01-7207-2006. The results showed that all FPC
were attacked by marine borer. The specimen were attacked derive from
Pholadidae.

ABSTRAK
SARI DELVIANA MARBUN: Ketahanan Fiber Plastic Composite (FPC)
terhadap Organisme Penggerek di Laut (Marine Borer), dibimbing oleh LUTHFI
HAKIM dan RIDWANTI BATUBARA.

Fiber Plastic Composite (FPC) merupakan salah satu produk biokomposit
yang terdiri dari serat bahan berlignoselulosa sebagai filler dan plastik sebagai
perekat. Pada penelitian ini FPC terbuat dari plastik polypropilene dan serat
kardus daur ulang. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi
ketahanan sifat fisis, mengukur penurunan berat dan intensitas serangan
organisme penggerek di laut (marine borer) terhadap FPC setelah direndam di
laut selama 6 bulan di perairan Pelabuhan Belawan. Penelitian ini menggunakan

rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) faktorial, 2 faktor: perbandingan polypropilena
dan serat kardus (50:50, 60:40 dan 70:30) serta jenis plastik (daur ulang sekali
dan daur ulang lebih dari sekali) dan hasilnya dibandingkan dengan standar JIS A
5905-2003 hardboard S20, JIS A 5908-2003 particleboards type 13 dan SNI 017207-2006.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sifat fisis FPC memenuhi standar JIS
A 5905-2003 hardboard S20 dan JIS A 5908-2003 particleboards type 13
kecuali sifat kadar air. Meskipun demikian, kadar air untuk FPC PP Buram dan
Bening 70:30 masih memenuhi standar JIS A 5905-2003 hardboard S20 dan JIS
A 5908-2003 particleboards type 13. Selain itu, ketahanan FPC terhadap marine
borer (penurunan berat dan intensitas serangan) masih memenuhi standar SNI 017207-2006. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa semua FPC terserang marine borer.
Marine borer yang menyerang FPC adalah Martesia striata.
