The main problem of this research is to reveal how the major character
solves the problems based on the structural elements and analyze the novel
using psychology of religion theory.
In analyzing The Shack novel, the researcher uses qualitative method and
psychology of religion theory. The objective of this study is to understand the
nature of happiness experienced by Mackanzie in The Shack novel published in
2007 by William Paul Young. The source of data is The Shack novel and the
secondary data are from the other sources related with the analysis such as the
author’s biography, literary books, pshychologys books, and psychology of
religion theory especially by William James. The methods of collecting data
are researching in the library and the internet. The technique used in analyzing
the data is descriptive analysis.
The result shows that the problem of major character caused by internal
conflict about religious experience can make his life better than before.
