Key words: Reinforcement, Teaching English
Reinforcement is act of making something stronger or action of someone
who aims to build. When teachers master reinforcement well, they can make the
students feel more interested, motivated, confident, and enjoy in class during
teaching and learning process, especially in teaching English at MTS Nurul Islam
Jepara. So, in order to create quality learning, teachers are demanded to have basic
skills of teaching and managing class well and give reinforcement to the students.
Because, the students think that learning English is a difficult subject to learn.
They do not understand what the teachers say. Most of them are too afraid on
making mistakes, less of confidences and motivation.
Based on the objective of the research are as follows; what types of verbal,
gestural, and token reinforcement found in teaching English at MTS Nurul Islam
Jepara in Academic Year 2017/2018.
This research is a qualitative research. The design of the research is
Descriptive Qualitative design. The data of this research is the Teachers’
Reinforcement. The data source is English teachers in MTS Nurul Islam Jepara.
The instrument in this research is observation.
The result of this research shows that the types of Teachers Reinforcement
found in teaching English at MTS Nurul Islam Jepara in Academic Year
2017/2018 is verbal reinforcement and gestural reinforcement.
Based on the result, the researcher concludes that the teachers was already
used verbal and gestural reinforcement in teaching English. But, no token
reinforcement is found from both teachers. So from suggestion, the teachers
should give a little bit more reinforcement variations than before to get the
students attentions, make students enjoyable in the class and to motivate them.
The teacher should give token reinforcement also to the students.

Penguatan adalah tindakan untuk menguatkan sesuatu atau tindakan
seseorang untuk membangun. Ketika guru menguasai penguatan dengan baik,
mereka bisamembuat siswa merasa tertarik, termotivasi, percaya diri, dan
menikmati dalam pembelajaran di kelas, khususnya belajar bahasa Inggris di MTS
Nurul Islam Jepara. Jadi, dalam hal untuk membuat pembelajaran yang
berkualitas, guru di haruskan mempunyai kemampuan dasar dalam mengajar dan
mengatur kelas dengan baik dan memberi penguatan kepada siswa. Karena, siswa
berpikiran bahwa belajar bahasa Inggris itu sulit. Mereka tidak mengerti apa yang
di katakan gurunya. Hampir semua siswa takut membuat kesalahan, kurang
percaya diri dan kurang motivasi.
Berdasarkan rumusan masalah, tujuan utama dari penelitian ini adalah
sebagai berikut; tipe verbal, gestural, and token reinforcement apa saja yang di
temukan dalam belajar bahasa Inggris di MTS Nurul Islam Jepara tahun pelajaran
2017/2018.
Penelitian ini adalah sebuah penelitian kualitatif. Tipe penelitian ini adalah
Diskriptif Kualitatif. Data dari penelitian ini adalah penguatan guru. Sumber data
penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa Inggris di MTS Nurul Islam Jepara . Alat yang
digunakan untuk mengambil data dalam penelitian ini adalah observasi.
Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tipe penguatan guru yang di
temukan di MTS Nurul Islam Jepara adalah verbal reinforcement and gestural
reinforcement.
Berdasarkan dari hasil yang di dapatkan, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa
guru telah menggunakan verbal and gestural reinforcement di dalam mengajar
bahasa Inggris. Tapi, tidak ada token reinforcement yang di temukan dari kedua
guru. Jadi untuk saran, guru harus lebih banyak lagi memberikan variasi
reinforcement dari sebelumnya untuk mendapatkan perhatian siswa, membuat
siswa lebih nyaman di kelas, dan untuk memotivasi mereka. Guru juga harus
memberikan juga token reinforcement.
