Key words:Speech function, mood type, talk show.
Speech function is the role of language plays in the context of society or
the individual. Study about speech function is study how to response and how to
give correct interpretation from the text or context.It also contains what the
speaker or writer wants. It also can be applied in talk show where there is
interaction between the host and the guests to eliminate misunderstanding in
conversation. Talking about speech function, there are four basic categories. They
are statement, question, command and offer. The grammatical form of them is
revealed through their typical mood in clause, such as declarative, polar
interrogative, WH-interrogative, imperative, exclamative, elliptical clause and
tagged declarative.
This research has two main objectives: (1) to find out the mood types in
the transcript of Face 2 Face Interview Of Desi Anwar With Richard Gere on July
23, 2011. (2) to find out speech function expressed by clause mood in the
transcript of Face 2 Face Interview Of Desi Anwar With Richard Gere on July 23,
2011. It focuses in utterances of Desi Anwar as a host and Richard Gere as a
guest.
The research is conducted using descriptive qualitative. In doing the
research, I use functional grammar approach based on Eggin and Slade. The
analysis of texts consisted of clasifying the text into the speakers and clauses.
Based on clause, then it is categorized into the mood type by analyzing the mood
structures (subject and finite) and then after finding the mood type, I continue
identifying the speech function.
The result of this research shows from 649 clauses, the mood types found
inthe transcript of Face 2 Face Interview Of Desi Anwar With Richard Gere on
July 23, 2011 are declarative (572 clauses), polar interrogative (21 clauses), WHinterrogative (38 clauses), imperative (3 clauses) and elliptical clause (15 clauses).
While the speech function found in form of statement (515 clauses), questions (59
clauses), command (3 clauses). As responding of speech function, I found answer
(35 clauses), acknowledgement (17 clauses), contradiction (8 clauses) and
disclaimer (12 clauses). Most of speakers use statement to explain their answer or
to elicit the question. Here, the guest (Richard Gere) uses long argument or
answers to respond the question from the host (Desi Anwar) and Desi Anwar also
does sometimes. It happens because there is duration in talk show and they are
sued by the viewers of that programme to give more information. While in daily
conversation, people use the simple response without giving much elaboration.

This research suggests the readers, for students of English Education
Department especially students who study about Functional Grammar can learn
more about mood types and speech function through my research, for the teachers
or lecturer should be sensitive to guide the students, and for the other researchers
to do the research further.

Kata kunci:Fungsi bicara, jenis mood, talk show.
Fungsi bicara (speech function) merupakan peran bahasa dalam konteks
sosial masyarakat atau perseorangan. Belajar tentang fungsi bicara yaitu
bagaimana seseorang memberikan respon dan memberikan interpretasi secara
benar berdasarkan text atau konteksnya. Fungsi bicara juga berisi tentang apa
yang pembicara atau penulis inginkan kepada pembaca. Hal ini juga berlaku pada
talk show (dialog interaktif) dimana ada interaksi antara pembawa acara dan
narasumber untuk mengurangi kesalahpahaman di dalam sebuah percakapan.
Berbicara tentang fungsi bicara, ada empat kategorinya. Diantaranya berupa
pernyataan, pertanyaan, perintah dan penawaran. Bentuk grammarnya bisa dilihat
dari jenis mood dalam klausa, seperti declarative, polar interrogative, WHinterrogative, imperative, exclamative, elliptical clause and tagged declarative.
Penelitian ini mempunyai dua tujuan utama: (1) untuk mengetahui jenis
mood dalalm transkrip wawancara Face 2 Face oleh Desi Anwar dengan Richard
Gere pada tanggal 23 Juli 2011. (2) untuk mengetahui fungsi bicara yang
diungkapkan melalui klausa mood dalalm transkrip wawancara Face 2 Face oleh
Desi Anwar dengan Richard Gere pada tanggal 23 Juli 2011. Penelitian ini hanya
fokus pada percakapan Desi Anwar sebagai pembawa acara dan Richard Gere
sebagai narasumbernya.
Penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Dalam melakukan
penelitian inik saya menggunakan pendekatan functional grammar menurut Eggin
dan Slade. Analisis teks terdiri dari klasifikasi text menjadi pemain utama dan
klausa. Dari klausa, kemudian dikatagorikan menjadi jenis mood dengan
menganalisa struktur mood (subject dan finite) kemudian menganalisa fungsi
bicaranya.
Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan dari 649 klausa, jenis mood yang
ditemukan dalam transcript of Face 2 Face Interview Of Desi Anwar dengan
Richard Gere pada tanggal 23 Juli 2011 dalam bentuk declarative (572 klausa),
polar interrogative (21 klausa), WH-interrogative (38 klausa), imperative (3
klausa) and elliptical clause (15 klausa). Sementara fungsi bicara dalam bentuk

respon fungsi bicara ditemukan dalam bentuk answer (35 klausa),

Kebanyakan para pembicara menggunakan pernyataan untuk menjelaskan
jawaban mereka atau menguraikan pertanyaan. Disini, seorang narasumber
(Richard Gere) menggunakan argumen yang panjang dalam menjawab atau
merespon pertanyaan dari pembawa acara (Desi Anwar) dan terkadang Desi

Anwar juga melakukannya. Hal ini terjadi karena ada durasi waktu dalam talk
show dan mereka dituntut oleh penonton untuk menberi informasi secara detail.
Sementara dalam percakapan sehari-hari, orang-orang menggunakan jawaban
yang sederhana tanpa banyak penjelasan.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut di atas, saya menyarakan kepada
pembaca, untuk mahasiswa dengan program studi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris
khususnya mahasiswa yang mendapat mata kuliah grammar dan functional
grammar dapat lebih mempelajari tentang jenis mood and fungsi bicara dengan
adanya penelitian ini, untuk para guru ataus dosen harus peka dalam membimbing
muridnya, dan untuk peneliti lain agar melakukan penelitian lebih lanjut.

research, I use functional grammar approach based on Eggin and Slade. The
analysis of texts consisted of clasifying the text into the speakers and clauses.
Based on clause, then it is categorized into the mood type by analyzing the mood
structures (subject and finite) and then after finding the mood type, I continue
identifying the speech function.
The result of this research shows from 649 clauses, the mood types found
inthe transcript of Face 2 Face Interview Of Desi Anwar With Richard Gere on
July 23, 2011 are declarative (572 clauses), polar interrogative (21 clauses), WHinterrogative (38 clauses), imperative (3 clauses) and elliptical clause (15 clauses).
While the speech function found in form of statement (515 clauses), questions (59
clauses), command (3 clauses). As responding of speech function, I found answer
(35 clauses), acknowledgement (17 clauses), contradiction (8 clauses) and
disclaimer (12 clauses). Most of speakers use statement to explain their answer or
to elicit the question. Here, the guest (Richard Gere) uses long argument or
answers to respond the question from the host (Desi Anwar) and Desi Anwar also
does sometimes. It happens because there is duration in talk show and they are
sued by the viewers of that programme to give more information. While in daily
conversation, people use the simple response without giving much elaboration.

This research suggests the readers, for students of English Education
Department especially students who study about Functional Grammar can learn
more about mood types and speech function through my research, for the teachers
or lecturer should be sensitive to guide the students, and for the other researchers
to do the research further.

Fungsi bicara (speech function) merupakan peran bahasa dalam konteks
sosial masyarakat atau perseorangan. Belajar tentang fungsi bicara yaitu
bagaimana seseorang memberikan respon dan memberikan interpretasi secara
benar berdasarkan text atau konteksnya. Fungsi bicara juga berisi tentang apa
yang pembicara atau penulis inginkan kepada pembaca. Hal ini juga berlaku pada
talk show (dialog interaktif) dimana ada interaksi antara pembawa acara dan
narasumber untuk mengurangi kesalahpahaman di dalam sebuah percakapan.
Berbicara tentang fungsi bicara, ada empat kategorinya. Diantaranya berupa
pernyataan, pertanyaan, perintah dan penawaran. Bentuk grammarnya bisa dilihat
dari jenis mood dalam klausa, seperti declarative, polar interrogative, WHinterrogative, imperative, exclamative, elliptical clause and tagged declarative.
Penelitian ini mempunyai dua tujuan utama: (1) untuk mengetahui jenis
mood dalalm transkrip wawancara Face 2 Face oleh Desi Anwar dengan Richard
Gere pada tanggal 23 Juli 2011. (2) untuk mengetahui fungsi bicara yang
diungkapkan melalui klausa mood dalalm transkrip wawancara Face 2 Face oleh
Desi Anwar dengan Richard Gere pada tanggal 23 Juli 2011. Penelitian ini hanya
fokus pada percakapan Desi Anwar sebagai pembawa acara dan Richard Gere
sebagai narasumbernya.
Penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif. Dalam melakukan
penelitian inik saya menggunakan pendekatan functional grammar menurut Eggin
dan Slade. Analisis teks terdiri dari klasifikasi text menjadi pemain utama dan
klausa. Dari klausa, kemudian dikatagorikan menjadi jenis mood dengan
menganalisa struktur mood (subject dan finite) kemudian menganalisa fungsi
bicaranya.
Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan dari 649 klausa, jenis mood yang
ditemukan dalam transcript of Face 2 Face Interview Of Desi Anwar dengan
Richard Gere pada tanggal 23 Juli 2011 dalam bentuk declarative (572 klausa),
polar interrogative (21 klausa), WH-interrogative (38 klausa), imperative (3
klausa) and elliptical clause (15 klausa). Sementara fungsi bicara dalam bentuk

Kebanyakan para pembicara menggunakan pernyataan untuk menjelaskan
jawaban mereka atau menguraikan pertanyaan. Disini, seorang narasumber
(Richard Gere) menggunakan argumen yang panjang dalam menjawab atau
merespon pertanyaan dari pembawa acara (Desi Anwar) dan terkadang Desi

Anwar juga melakukannya. Hal ini terjadi karena ada durasi waktu dalam talk
show dan mereka dituntut oleh penonton untuk menberi informasi secara detail.
Sementara dalam percakapan sehari-hari, orang-orang menggunakan jawaban
yang sederhana tanpa banyak penjelasan.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut di atas, saya menyarakan kepada
pembaca, untuk mahasiswa dengan program studi pendidikan Bahasa Inggris
khususnya mahasiswa yang mendapat mata kuliah grammar dan functional
grammar dapat lebih mempelajari tentang jenis mood and fungsi bicara dengan
adanya penelitian ini, untuk para guru ataus dosen harus peka dalam membimbing
muridnya, dan untuk peneliti lain agar melakukan penelitian lebih lanjut.
