Writing is one of the skills which are taught to Junior High School students as
one of the teaching and learning activities in English class. Commonly, the
students have dificulties to write. The students find it hard to start writing because
they have no idea about what to write. Because of that, teacher must use media
that apropiate to improve writing skill of the students.
The objectives of the research are to find out whether the use Facebook
improves the writing skill of the eighth grade students of MTs. Miftahul Huda Pati
in the academic year 2013/2014.
This is classroom action research. The researcher conducted in the eighth
grade students of MTs Miftahul Huda Pati in academic year 2013/2014. The
subject of the research is the grade VIII in second semester. The material used is
recount text. The writer uses some instrument in this research. They are
observation sheet and achievement test.

The result of this research shows that there is an improvement in every
cycle. In cycle I, the average score of achievement test of writing skill by using
Facebook is 69.4. In cycle II, the average score of achievement test of writing skill
by using Facebook in cycle II is 82.5. So, there is an increasing of the average
score of the students’ writing skill in every cycle. The students’ writing skill
(organization, content, grammar, punctuation, style and quality of expression) in
each test improved, too. In addition, based on the result of observation sheet, most
of students seemed more enthusiastic in writing when using Facebook as media in
their learning. They could share about recount text on Facebook and also could
give comments and likings on their writing. The researcher concluded that
Facebook as media of teaching English had proven effective in improving the
ability of English writing of the students of MTs. Miftahul Huda Pati in academic
year 2013/2014.
Based on the result of the research above, the researcher can conclude that
the use of Facebook can improve students’ writing skill in recount text at the
Eighth Grade Students of MTs. Miftahul Huda Pati in the academic 2013/2014.
The researcher also suggests that English teachers should conduct the research by
looking at the situation and condition in the school. The school should provide
hotspot and computer in every class. Teacher also should have main equipment

such as Laptop, Projector and Modem. And the teacher has to pay attention with
the limited time in the process of teaching learning process in the classroom.

Menulis adalah salah satu ketrampilan yang diajarkan di Sekolah
Menengah Pertama (SMP/MTs) sebagai salah satu kegiatan belajar mengajar di
kelas Umumnya, para siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menulis. Para siswa
kesulitan memulai menulis karena mereka tidak mempunyai ide tentang apa yang

akan ditulis. Dikarenakan itu, guru harus menggunakan media yang sesuai untuk
meningkatkan kemampuan menulis pada siswa.
Penelitian ini mempunyai tujuan untuk menemukan apakah penggunaan
Facebook meningkatkan keahlian menulis terhadap siswa kelas VIII di MTs.
Miftahul Huda Pati tahun ajaran 2013/2014.
Ini merupakan penelitian tindak kelas (Classroom Action Research).
Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di MTs. Miftahul Huda Pati. Subject penelitian adalah
kelas VIII pada semester kedua. Materi yang digunakan adalah recount text.
Penulis menggunakan beberapa instrument di dalam penelitian ini. Yang
digunakan adalah lembar observasi and test.
Hasil dari penelitian ini memperlihatkan bahwa ada peningkatan pada
setiap cycle. Pada cycle I, nilai rata-rata test kemampuan berbicara menggunakan
Facebook adalah 69.4. kemudian Pada cycle II nilai rata-rata test kemampuan
berbicara menggunakan Facebook adalah 82.5. Jadi, ada peningkatan terhadap
rata-rata nilai terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa di setiap cycle. Kemampuan
menulis siswa ( organisasi, isi, tatabahasa, pemberian tanda, gaya dan kualitas
ucapan) pada setiap tes meningkat juga. Penulis menyimpulkan bahwa Facebook
sebagai media pengajaran bahasa inggris terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan
kemampuan menulis bahasa inggris terhadap siswa MTs. Miftahul Huda Pati di
tahun ajaran 2013/2014.

Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diatas, peneliti bisa menyimpulkan bahwa
penggunaan Facebook bisa meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menulis text
recount terhadap kelas 8 di MTs. Miftahul Huda Pati di tahun ajaran 2013/2014.
Peneliti menyarankan bahwa guru seharusnya melaksanakan penelitian itu dengan
melihat situasi dan kondisi di sekolahan. Sekolah seharusnya menyediakan
hostpot dan computer pada setiap kelas. Guru juga seharusnya memiliki
perlengkapan utama seperti laptop, proyektor and modem. Dan guru seharusnya
memperhatikan waktu yang terbatas dalam proses belajar mengajar in kelas.
