One of significant parts of human communication is politeness. Politeness
is very valuable for entire people in the world because politeness can lead us to
have certain attitude with others. Good interaction can be created by using
communicative language. People should know the appropriateness of variety of
language use. If a speaker says something that represents a threat to another
individual’s expectations regarding self-image, it is described as a face
threatening acts. Furthermore, Brown and Levinson (1987) suggest politeness as a
compensation action taken to counter-balance the disruptive effect of facethreatening acts (FTAs). Politeness strategies also have various kinds. They are
bald on record, off record indirect, positive politeness and negative politeness.
This research has two objectives such as: (i) To find out bald on record
and off record strategies in movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. (ii) To find
out negative and positive politeness in movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.
Pragmatics analysis and descriptive qualitative are applied to this research
design in order to support the objectives. Moreover, politeness strategies are the

data. While, transcript text in movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is used as
data source. This analysis research applied Brown and Levisohn’s theory.
According to data finding and analysis, there were 295 utterances
delivered by the characters that employ politeness strategies found in movie
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. They are 65 utterances of bald on record, 20
utterances of off record indirect strategy, 146 utterance of positive politeness and
64 utterances of negative politeness. The result showed that the characters of
movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is categorized as polite people because
they use positive politeness more which present close relationship between them.
Based on the result above, I suggest the English lecturer should emphasize
pragmatic materials especially politeness as the valuable lecture not only in
theoretical but also in practical meaning. Moreover, I encourage the students to
differ the way to deliver their wants appropriately through applying politeness.
For the readers, it is so important to be polite person because through being polite
the hearer will feel comfortable with our behaviors and utterance, so it can create
an effective communication between the speaker and the hearer.

Salah satu bagian terpenting dalam komunikasi manusia adalah
kesopanan. Kesopanan sangat berharga bagi semua orang di dunia karena hal itu
akan mengarahkan kita untuk bersikap terhadap orang lain. Interaksi yang baik
dapat diciptakan dengan menggunakan bahasa yang komunikatif. Orang harus
mengetahui kesesuaian berbagai penggunaan bahasa. Jika pembicara mengatakan
sesuatu yang merupakan ancaman bagi harapan individu lain mengenai citra diri,
hal ini digambarkan sebagai tindak ancaman wajah. Selanjutnya, Brown dan
Levinson (1987) menunjukkan kesopanan sebagai tindakan kompensasi diambil
untuk menyeimbangkan efek mengganggu tindak ancaman wajah (FTA). Strategi
kesopanan memiliki beberapa jenis yaitu strategi tercatat, strategi tidak tercatat,
kesopanan positif dan kesopanan negatif.
Penelitian ini bertujuan; Untuk menemukan strategi tercatat dan tidak
tercatat, dan untuk mengetahui strategi kesopanan positif dan negatif dalam film
Journey 2: The Mysterious Island .

Analisis pragmatik dan kualitatif deskriptif diterapkan dalam rancangan
penelitian yang mana membantu tujuan penelitian. Lebih jauh lagi, strategi
kesopanan digunakan sebagai data . Sementara, transkrip dalam film Journey 2:
The Mysterious Island digunakan sebagai sumber data. Penelitian kali ini
menerapkan teori yang diciptakan Brown dan Levison.
Sesuai hasil dan analisis data, ada 295 tuturan yang disampaikan oleh
karakter yang menggunakan strategi kesopanan ditemukan dalam film Journey 2:
The Mysterious Island . ada 65 tuturan tercatat , 20 tuturan tidak tercatat , 146
tuturan kesopanan positif dan 64 tuturan kesopanan negatif. Hasil penelitian
menunjukkan bahwa karakter dalam film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island
merupakan orang sopan karena mereka menggunakan kesopanan positif yang
menunjukkan kedekatan hubungan mereka.
Berdasarkan hasil di atas, saya menyarankan dosen untuk menekankan
strategi kesopanan tidak hanya dalam teori tetapi juga mempraktekannya. Selain
itu, saya memotivasi siswa untuk menyampaikan keinginan mereka dengan tepat
melalui penerapan kesopanan . Sedangkan untuk para pembaca, sangat penting
untuk menjadi orang yang sopan karena melalui bersikap sopan pendengar akan
merasa nyaman dengan perilaku dan ucapan kita.
