d. Determining t-table in significance level 5 with degree of freedom
df: df = N1+N2
– 2 = 31+31 -2
= 62 – 2
= 60 Degree of significance 5 : 2.000
Degree of significance 1 : 1.671
e. The comparison between t
o
and t
table
From the calculation above, it can be seen that the value of t
o
was 3.87 and the degree of freedom df was 60. In the research, the writer used
the degree of significance 5 and 1. It can be seen that the df and the degree of significance 5 = 2.000 and 1 = 1.671.
By comparing the value of t
o
= 3.87 and the t
table
on the degree of significance = 2.000 and 1.671 Therefore, the writer summarizes that t
o
was higher than t
table
. It means that H
a
alternative hypothesis of the research is accepted and H
o
null hypothesis is rejected. It is because t
o
t
table
: It means that H
a
alternative hypothesis of the research is accepted and H
o
null hypothesis is rejected. It means that there is significance effectiveness of using STAD technique at second
grade students of SMP Islam Ruhama Ciputat.
C. Interpretation of Data
Based on the result calculation presented previously, it is known that the result of t
o
is 3.87 with the degree of freedom is 60. In this paper, the writer used
the degree of significance 5 = 2.000 and 1 = 1.671. Comparing t
o
with each score of the degree of significance, the result is 2.000 3.87 1.671. Since t
o
score of calculation is higher than t
table
in the table, the alternative hypothesis Ha is accepted and the null hypothesis Ho is rejected.
From the explanation above it can be seen that learning reading by using STAD technique is quite success than learning reading without STAD technique.
Students’ score of reading showed the significant effectiveness after using STAD technique on teaching learning.
The students’ score after learning reading through STAD technique mostly are higher than learning without using STAD.
Based on the improvement of students’ score after learning reading through STAD, it prove that the use of STAD technique in learning reading is
important for students’ achievement and it also has some advantages, such as helping students to promote cooperative behavior and better group relation among
them, each student has more chance to speak and students are motivated to learn. But there are also some disadvantages of teaching reading through STAD
technique, it took much time to organize the groups and the class situation became noisy.

CHAPTER V CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION
A. Conclusions
Based on the research carried out in second grade at SMP Islam Ruhama Ciputat academic year 20132014, it can be concluded that STAD technique is
effective in teaching reading of reading comprehension to the second grade students of SMP Islam Ruhama.
The result of statistic calculation indicated that the value of t
o
= 3.87 and the value of degree of freedom df was 60 on the degree of significance 5 is
2.00 and 1 is 1.67. Comparing the t
o
with each values of the degree significance, the writer found that it is higher than 2.00 and 1.67. It can be concluded that t
o
is higher than t
table
. Finally, the writer could take the conclusion that STAD technique in
te aching reading is effective and enhance students’ reading comprehension.
Students’ score on learning by using STAD technique is higher than the students’ score on learning without using STAD technique.
B. Suggestions
The suggestions below are designed to help students set up formal learning groups and study teams. The writer would like to give some suggestions that
might be useful for teachers, students, and headmaster. The suggestions are as follows:
1. For teachers, it is appropriate to use STAD technique on teaching reading
in the big classroom. It is because on STAD, students might works some assignments in group and it makes them concern on the material.
2. Teachers have to be aware that STAD technique is a technique that could
catch students’ interest and enthusiasm. It is because the students
experienced working with the various types of friends and activities.
