A b s t r a c t : The aim of t h e s t u d y was t o know t h e e f f e c t of water
stress measured by l e v e l s of a v a i l a b l e s o i l w a t e r c o n t e n t , soybean
v a r i e t y , and t h e i n f l u e n c e t o growth and production of s o y b e k .
Three soybean v a r i e t i e s w e r e used i n t h i s experiment i.e. Americana,
Galunggung, and Kepet. The l e v e l s of water content a s
treatment
were 75, 50, and 25 percent of a v a i l a b l e water. F a c t o r i a l with
completely randomized experimental d e s i g n was a p p l i e d . The experiment was conducted i n a p l a s t i c house.

Water s t r e s s decreased growth and production of soybean. Prod u c t i o n decreased 13 and 50 percent p e r p l a n t f o r Kepet w i t h 50 and
2 5 percent w a t e r s t r e s s a v a i l a b l e compared w i t h production with 75
percent w a t e r stress a v a i l a b l e . The d e c r e a s e w a s r e l a t i v e l y smaller
f o r Americana t h a n f o r Kepet and Galunggung i . e . 31 and 54 percent.
But on t h a t water stress Americana production (4.543 g p e r plant
and 3.016 g p e r p l a n t ) were h i g h e r t h a n Galunggung (2.914 g p e r
p l a n t and 1.917 g p e r p l a n t ) o r Kepet (3.123 g p e r p l a n t and 1.810 g
per plant).

a i r tanah t e r s e d i a , v a r i e t a s dan i n t e r a k s i n y a terhadap pertumbuhan
