2. Students’ Recommendations on the Use of Observation Sheet Based on

Interview Based on the interview result, the researcher found that the result supported the data taken from open-ended questions. The recommendations from the students were same with the recommendations on the questionnaire results. Generally, the students suggested that the observer should provide also written feedback besides give score and suggested that the form should have bigger column for writing comments. There were only new suggestions taken from interview result. Two of students interviewed suggested that it would be better to add more items of evaluation. By giving more detail items of teaching skills to be evaluated, it can help observer to measure the teacher performance and it can give more detail information about teacher’ teaching performance. One of the students suggested the lecturer to add more items of evaluation about compatibility between material taught with lesson plan.

3. Discussion

Based on the description above, the researcher found some positive recommendations from the students to improve the use of observation sheet. The researcher classified the students’ recommendations into three categories. They were recommendations concerning the form of observation sheet, recommendations for the microteaching students as observer and for the microteaching lecturers about the implementation of the observation sheet. 54 The students proposed that the observation sheet should provide bigger spaces for comments in the observation sheet. As observer, the students need bigger column to write comments or suggestions that they want to convey in each point of teaching competences. Also, it would be better if there are detail indicators of teaching skills added in the observation sheet. More indicators of teaching skills would help the observer to measure the teaching performance and it would give the student teacher more detail information about their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, the students added that the teaching skills indicators in the observation sheet should be more understandable. It would be better if the observation sheet did not use complicated words so that the students would not be confused in using the observation sheet. The students also gave some suggestions towards the students of microteaching class, especially the observer. The students suggested that the next observer is hoped to write along the comments and positive suggestions to improve the teaching skills not provide the scores only. Constructive comments and suggestions will help the students to set up goal for the next teaching practices. Besides, in filling the observation sheet, the observer should be objective and honest. The observer should measure teaching performances based on the work of the performance not based on the person who did the performance. The last recommendations are for the lecturers of microteaching class concerning the implementation of the observation sheet. The students said that giving back the observation sheet to the student teacher right after the end of teaching performance would help the students to use the feedback optimally. 55 Moreover, in order to give more beneficial feedback, the students also suggested that it would better if the feedback that the student teacher got were shared to all students so that the others students could learn from their friends’ teaching performances. 56

CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

This chapter presents the final discussion of this research. In this chapter, the researcher presents conclusions drawn from the research result and presents suggestions to maximize the use of observation sheet.

A. Conclusions

After discussing and analyzing the data gathered in the Chapter IV, the researcher drawn a conclusion about the students’ perception on the use of observation sheets, the feedback the students obtained, and some recommendations that the students offer to improve the use of observation sheet.

1. The Students Perception on the Use of Observation Sheets in Microteaching Class

In general, the students’ perception towards the use of observation sheet was positive. Most of the students considered the use of observation sheets as effective media of assessment. The students argued that the use of observation sheet was important and useful to help them identifying their strengths and weaknesses of their teaching performance and to give them constructive suggestions. Moreover, the use of observation sheet gave the students reflection on the students’ achievement and gave such kind of motivation to teach better. All
