Open-ended Questions Even though most of the students perceived the use of observation sheets positively, it did not mean that the use of observation sheet is already perfect. The students also had some suggestions to improve the use of observation sheet. After studied the open-ended questions result, the researcher found that the students had many constructive comments and recommendations on the use of observation sheet. Some of the students said that the use of observation sheets was already good and it has to be applied more in every microteaching class. One of the students wrote, “Keep it. It is good way to be implemented.”respondent 3. The other students gave suggestions for the students as observer and for the lecturers of microteaching class about the form of observation sheets and about the implementation of the use of observation sheet. The students commented that students who participate as observer should be objective and honest in giving score to the student teacher’s teaching performance. The student wrote, My suggestion towards the use of observation sheets in microteaching class is more objective, not subjective. I mean giving measurement according to the ‘work’ of the performance, not the person who did the performance. respondent 36 52 Besides being objective, the students suggested that an observer should give not only score but also detail comments and suggestions by giving notes. They argued that by giving detail comments and suggestions, the student teacher could understand how to improve the weaknesses of their teaching skills. One of the students argued that feedback in the form of score was confusing. The students wrote, “Give detail comments because sometimes we are confuse if most of the feedback is in the form of score.”respondent 34. Moreover, the students’ recommendations were about the form of observation sheet. Most of the students suggested that the observation sheet should have detail indicators of evaluation, should have more spaces to write detail comments, and should be more understandable. There was one suggestion from a student who said that total score such as 10 or 100 would be easier to be described. He said, “Nothing crucial. Perhaps it will be better if the score is in a good total. I mean 10010 so that it will be easier to be accounted.”respondent 74. The students also commented on the use of observation sheet implementation in microteaching class. The students suggested that the observer should give the observation sheet back to the student teacher right after teaching performance and to share it to all students. The student wrote, “It will be better if the observation sheets are shared to all students, so we can get more input feedback.”respondent 32. 53
