CHAPTER V CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

This chapter presents the final discussion of this research. In this chapter, the researcher presents conclusions drawn from the research result and presents suggestions to maximize the use of observation sheet.

A. Conclusions

After discussing and analyzing the data gathered in the Chapter IV, the researcher drawn a conclusion about the students’ perception on the use of observation sheets, the feedback the students obtained, and some recommendations that the students offer to improve the use of observation sheet.

1. The Students Perception on the Use of Observation Sheets in Microteaching Class

In general, the students’ perception towards the use of observation sheet was positive. Most of the students considered the use of observation sheets as effective media of assessment. The students argued that the use of observation sheet was important and useful to help them identifying their strengths and weaknesses of their teaching performance and to give them constructive suggestions. Moreover, the use of observation sheet gave the students reflection on the students’ achievement and gave such kind of motivation to teach better. All 57 the feedback that the students obtained helped them to make an improvement in the next teaching performances. 2. The Feedback the Students Obtained from the Use of Observation Sheets Concerning Their Teaching Skills Development The researcher found that generally the students achieved positive feedback from the use of observation sheet. The researcher determined the feedback that was obtained by the students into four categories. They were about feedback about the students’ teaching performances, feedback that enhance reflection, feedback that enhance motivation and general score of their teaching performances. All of those feedback helped the students to improve the students’ teaching skills. By knowing the strengths and weaknesses, the students were encouraged to study and performed better.

3. The Students’ Recommendations to Improve and to Maximize the Use of Observation Sheets

Based on the data collected, mainly, the students gave comments and suggestions about the form of observation sheets, for the students as the observer and for the lecturer of microteaching class concerning the implementation of the observation sheet. a. Recommendations about the form of observation sheet The recommendations on the form of observation sheet are around mechanical things. The students suggested that it would be better if the 58 observation sheet have bigger columns to write comments. Moreover, the students added that the observation sheet will be more effective if it provides more detail indicators of teaching skills so that the students will obtain more detail information to set up goal towards improvements. b. Recommendations for the students As the observer, the observer should be more objective and honest in measure the students teaching performance. Besides, it will be more effective if the observer write detail comments and suggestions on the observation sheet while observing the student teacher. c. Recommendations for the lecturer The students also gave some beneficial suggestions for the lecturers of microteaching class about the implementation of observation sheet. The students suggested that the lecturer and the observer should give back the observation sheets soon after the teaching performance. Some students also argued that it would be better if the feedbacks in the observation sheet are shared in the class so that the other students are able to learn from their peer’ teaching performances. Another suggestion for the lecturer is to consider the additional criteria of teaching skills on the observation sheet. 59
