74 A detailed observation on learners’ answers on the test items about these
perfect progressive aspects reveals a finding that language learners tend to make mistake in selecting appropriate verbs to indicate whether the grammatical aspects
represent an action in the present, past or future times.

knowledge in the English Language Studies, is presented in conclusion section. Implications section highlights the ideas emerged as the implications of research
result presented in conclusion sections. Finally, recommendation provides possible suggestions related to this study.
A. CONCLUSIONS
This study focuses on grammatical aspects acquisition of the English language learners, particularly the learners of English Letters Department from
second, fourth and sixth semesters. The investigation concentrated on these grammatical aspects: simple, perfect, progressive, and perfect progressive aspects.
An investigation intended to find out learners’ acquisition on the grammatical aspects usage and grammatical aspects knowledge. Subsequently, there was
analysis on the overall grammatical aspects acquisition to obtain the developmental pattern as well as to find whether there was any significant
difference in the developmental pattern in grammatical aspect acquisition of the three groups of students. In addition, a further investigation was conducted to
discover the problematic grammatical aspects for the learners. The statistical analysis from the obtained data shows a significant
difference on grammatical aspects acquisition of the second semester, fourth
76 semester and the sixth semester students. Further, the data analysis revealed the
developmental pattern of this grammatical aspect competence was in a shape of inverted V line. In brief, according to the findings and discussions on previous
chapter it can be concluded that there is a significant difference p: 0.001 0.05 in the inverted V-shaped developmental pattern of the grammatical aspects
acquisition of the second semester, fourth semester and the sixth semester students of English Letters Department.
It was expected that the developmental pattern be in a form of increasing line consistent with the length of study. In other words, the expectation was that
length of study responsible for a better grammatical aspect acquisition but according to the research finding, it turned out that the fourth semester students
instead of the sixth semester students achieved the highest mean. Therefore, it can be assumed that there was another factor instead of learners’ length of study
contributing to the shape of the developmental pattern. As mentioned in the previous chapter, this research investigated the
difference in the development of the grammatical aspects acquisitions of the three groups of learners as well as the problematic grammatical aspects for the learners.
Despite the fact that the developmental pattern was in an inverted V-shaped line, the statistical analysis showed that there was a significant difference in the
developmental pattern. In addition, the finding from statistical data analysis also shows that the learners’ acquisition of the grammatical aspects knowledge was
better than their acquisition of the knowledge on the use of the grammatical aspects. Subsequently, the research finding also revealed that obtained scores of
each grammatical aspects acquisition were different among the four aspects.
