4.2.3 Place Deixis
Place deixis concerns the encoding of spatial locations relative to the location of the participants in speech event. Place deixis is giving shape to the
location of participants in language events. “This here” and “di sini” or “dari sini” show something proximal close to the speaker. And then “that there”
and “di sana” or “ke sana” show something distal non-proximal, which means far to the speaker. The kinds of place deixis that is found in this novel is here. It
can be seen below:

proximal place deixis but it has two equivalences in Bahasa Indonesia. The word here translated into di sini is mostly used from chapter 1 to chapter 3. The
translator chooses di sini as the equivalence of SL because it is according to the speaker means which uses the word here to show something close to the speaker.
