C. Research Respondents

Respondents’ opinions were data that needed in this research. Respondents’ opinions were necessary to answer problems that stated as research questions. There were two different groups of respondents during conduct this study. Those groups were respondents of the preliminary field testing and respondents of the main field testing.

1. The Respondents of the Preliminary Field Testing

The self-assessment model needed to improve and revise to get the final iconic model. In the preliminary testing stage, respondents’ opinion, comment and suggestion were needed to develop the theoretical model. Respondents for the preliminary field testing stage were a lecturer and three English teachers who were considered the experts in teaching learning activity and assessing learners and teachers. He had been teaching English for more than 10 years in Respati University. The others are English teachers of SMK Putra Tama Bantul and SMKN 3 Palangkaraya. They were considered fully understand about teacher familiar with assessment and evaluation and had been teaching English for more than 5 years. Their teaching experience varied from 6 years to 10 years. The expert validation was used to determine whether the self-assessment model was well designed, acceptable and feasible for English teachers of the vocational school.

2. The Respondents of the Main Field Testing

The respondents of the main field testing were 15 English teachers of six different vocational schools. Those English teachers were teaching in SMK Putra Tama Bantul, SMKN 1 Palangkaraya, SMKN 2 Palangkaraya, SMKN 3 Palangkaraya, SMK Isei, and SMK Karsa Mulya. Since the product of this study was a self-assessment for English teacher which guided their performance based on their competences, the respondents of this stage were the teachers themselves. Their opinion was necessary to gather toward an expected self-assessment which helped them watch their performance. Their response which stated in closed-ended questionnaire and open-ended questionnaire were useful to develop the product as a ready to use self-assessment model.
