Descriptive Statistic of the User Validation Respondents’ Comment and Suggestions

2. Main Field Testing

After distributing the designed model, the researcher gathered data from the users. The data was obtained using both open-ended and closed-ended questionnaires. This stage is called main field testing. Data obtained was needed to answer the second research question to get the final iconic model of the product. Respondents’ opinions’ were calculated using descriptive statistic to the source of variance. Result of the open-ended questionnaire was presented in the form of paragraph.

a. Descriptive Statistic of the User Validation

The researcher used Likert Scale to analyze the data on the user validation. Five points of scale of Likert Scale was used to obtain respondents’ opinion toward the competence-based self-assessment model. The respondents needed to choose their degree of agreement as strongly agree, agree, doubt, disagree and strongly disagree. Scores varied from 1 to 5 which score 5 as the highest score and score 1 as the lowest score as described on the table 3.5 above. All The score of the questionnaire was calculated using descriptive statistics to the source of variance. T he central tendency of the respondents’ opinion on the designed product was interpreted. Interpretation on mean of each indicator and each aspect of required information were used to determine what to do to get the final iconic model. Criteria of respondents’ opinion were divided into five levels which were very high, high, fair, low and poor as explained on the table 3.6. Mean score of each indicator and each aspect of required information of the questionnaire also indicated certain meaning of interpretation. Thus, mean score of each indicator and each aspect of required information were interpreted based on the table 3.6 and table 3.7 as explain before. Then, tendency of the respondents’ opinion would be recorded in the table below: Table 3.9 Descriptive Statistics of User Validation example No. Indicators Central Tendency N Mn Interpret Required Information 1. Data that had been gathered from the user validation in main field testing stage were recorded using table above. Mean score of each statement was formulated and interpret based on the table of the meaning of score criteria and the table of the interpretation of the degree of agreement. Higher mean score of each statement means stronger the users agree with the indicator of the questionnaire.

b. Respondents’ Comment and Suggestions

Re spondents’ comment and suggestion were gathered from five open-ended questionnaires. Those comments and suggestions included its application, difficulty, advantages, disadvantages, and suggestion. Every single of data were used to develop the designed product. Those comments and suggestions were recorded in paragraphs.

CHAPTER IV RESULT AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents the result and discussion of the study. This chapter is divided into three parts. The first part presents theoretical model of the designed teacher self-assessment. The second part presents the iconic model of the designed teacher self-assessment. The last part presents the other findings of the study in form of the description of challenges in using the self-assessment model. A. Theoretical Model of a Competence-Based Self-Assessment Model for English Teacher of the Vocational School The first step was used to specify product and gathering related knowledge and theory to design the first version the self-assessment model. In this step, the researcher determined the product’s name, goal, content and procedure. The content of the product which later was named as A Competence-Based Self-Assessment Model for English Teacher of the Vocational School was formulated from the related theory and knowledge. The theory and knowledge were gathered for the literature review which covered the competence based learning, competence-based assessment, use of self-assessment, teacher standard, teacher s’ competence and teachers’ self- development. As stated in the review of the literature, in designing the self- assessment the researcher followed the R D and instructional design steps 1 Research and Information Collecting 2 Planning 3 Developing a Form of Product 4 Preliminary Field Testing 5 Main Product revision 6 Main Field Testing 71
