The classification of mispronunciation is classifying mispronunciation in pronouncing English vowels. The researcher identified the students’ mispronunciation in pronouncing English vowel, as follow : Mispronouncing on Pronouncing. a. Mispronunciation in pronouncing [I] vowel. Mispronunciation of this vowel was because the students’ lips were too relaxed. And they didn’t make their tongue a little bit lower. The students were not habitual to pronounce [I] sound because in Indonesian they didn’t find this vowel so they need a process. e.g. a. Big – bi:g b. Milk – mi:lk c. Hit – hi:t The right pronunciation is as follows : a. Big – bIg

b. Milk – mIlk

c. Hit

– hIt b. Mispronunciation in pronouncing [i: ] A mispronunciation in this vowel was because the students’ didn’t spread their lips. So, the sound that produced was like [I] vowel. And the students still confused to differentiate betweens [i:] vowel and [I] vowel. e.g. a. Please – plIz b. Leave – lIv

c. People -- pIpl

The right pronunciation is as follows : a. Please – pli:z b. Leave – li:v c. People – pi:pl c. Mispronunciation in pronouncing [æ] vowel. Mispronunciation in this vowel was because the students’ mouths were almost closed. They didn’t spread their lips, push their tongue to the front. So, the sound that produced was like [Ɛ ] vowel. And, because the students didn’t find this vowel in Indonesian words. e.g. a. Cat – kƐ t b. Answer – Ɛ nsƏ r

c. That -- ðƐ t

The right pronunciation is as follows : a. Cat – kæt b. Answer – ænsƏ r c. That – ðæt d. Mispronunciation in pronouncing [α ] vowel. A mispronunciation of this vowel was because the student’s mouth was not too opened. So, the sound that produced was like [Ə ] vowel. e.g a. Mispronunciation in pronouncing [Ɛ ] vowel Mispronunciation of this vowel was because the students were not habitual to pronounce [Ɛ ] sound because in Indonesian they didn’t find this vowel and they need a process. So, the sounds that produced were like [Ə ] or æ sound. e.g. a. Men – mƏ n b. Yellow – yælloƱ
