3.4 Instrument.

In order to make this research run effectively the researcher used an instrument. The instrument is tape recorder. The researcher used a tape recorder to record the students’ voices. The researcher gave some words on a piece of paper and then the researcher asked the students to read it. 3.5 Data Analysis.

In this study, the data were presented quantitatively in order to find out the frequency of occurrence of the mispronunciations. To analyze the data the researcher did some activities. First, the researcher prepared some words for a test. Second, the researcher recorded the students’ voices and the last the researcher calculated their mispronouncing. The frequency of occurrence of the mispronouncing previously identified were counted and tabulated. The number of mispronouncing were then presented in the form of percentage, the quantitatively data are expected to show the students’ difficulties in pronouncing vowels [i:], [i], [æ], [ ε ] and [α ]. The higher percentage of mispronouncing, and the more difficult the pronunciation for the students, will be presented with the table. Then, to know the proportion of the type of mispronouncing, it was calculated by using this formula : Number of mispronouncing of vowel x 100 Total number of mispronouncing Prosiding Seminar Nasional Hasil Penelitian Pendidikan dan Pembelajaran STKIP PGRI Jombang, Jawa Timur, Indonesia, 25 - 26 April 2015 392 Prosiding Seminar Nasional Hasil Penelitian Pendidikan dan Pembelajaran Vol. 1 No. 1 Tahun 2015 FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION Findings Classifying Mispronunciation.
