1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
Literature is said as medium of expressing ideas. Roberts and Henry (1993:1) said that literature refers to composition that tell stories, dramatize situation, express emotion, an analyze and advocate ideas. It means that literature is the art of writing that is full of expression and ideas because it is a product of imagination that comes from the author’s mind.
In general, literary work itself can be divided into three kinds which are known as “genre”, they are: poetry, drama, and prose. Poetry expresses a conversation or interchange that is grounded in the most deeply felt experiences of human beings. Drama is literature designed to be performed by actors. Prose is the ordinary form of written language. Edgar V. Roberts and Henry E. Jacobs (1993:2) said classify prose into fiction prose and non-fiction prose. Fiction is originally meant anything made up or shaped, the prose stories based on the author’s creation and imagination. It includes myths, parables, novels, romances, a nd short stories. On the other hand, non-fiction is literary works which describe or interpret facts, present judgments, and opinions. It consists of news reports, essays, magazines, newspapers, historical biographical works and many other forms of communication.
One of the most important aspects of the major novel is the interaction of contrary. Contradiction among characters makes both figures more real, but the characters also act on one another and develop as a result of these interactions,
(14)
which is often most of what a main stream novel is about. Character in a novel is not as puzzling as character in real life, a novel is short: it is a work of art, so it is selective character in novel rather as we do in real life; from people’s actions, from what they say about themselves, from what other say about them.
Character is a person who is responsible for the thoughts and action within a story, poem, or other literature. Characters are extremely important because they are the medium through which a reader interacts with a piece of literature. Every character has his or her own personality, used by a creative author to assist in forming the plot of a story or creating a mood. The different attitudes, mannerisms, and even appearances of characters can greatly influence the other major elements in a literary work, such as theme, setting, and tone. With this understanding of the character, a reader can become more aware of other aspect of literature, such as symbolism, giving the reader a more complete understanding of the work. The character is one of the most important tools available to the author. Authors take an indirect approach by indicating how their characters look and act, what they think and say, how they live and how other characters regard them.

Foster (1990:101) says that an antagonist is the character who opposes to the protagonist, the protagonist, the person that cause conflict for the pratagonist. The antagonist may be other persons, an animal, the enviroment, the self internal (psychological)
Based on the above definition, it can be concluded that antagonist is the character who always has brutal, rude and cruel behaviour.
Michael (1998:52) says that crime (rechtdeliten) is the act which, though not specified in the law, as a criminal act, has been perceived as an onrecht as an act as opposed to the rule of law.
Based on the above definition, it can be concluded that crime is an act contrary to the rule of law.
Bemmelem cited in Hussein (2003:57) says that criminality is a crime, anti-social acts that cause harm, misbehavior in public, so that there is anxiety in the community, and to appease the public, the State shall execute judgments against criminals.
Based on the above definition, it can be concluded is a criminal act that can cause harm and the government should be bringing the appropriate punishment for criminal behavior.
Charles ( 1989: 217) says that assassination is the act of eliminating or killing someone. Definition of such killings is understood that the murder was not
(18)
a crime classified whether done intentionally, or unintentionally and intentionally or semi. It means that nothing is exempt under criminal charges for criminal the assassination perpetrators. From the proposed definition, the assassination can be classified on deliberate murder, murder was not intentional and deliberate killing of spring
Based on the above definition, it can be concluded that the killing is done intentionally or unintentionally.
Alexandre (2007:24) says that the assassination is a deliberate act committed by a person in order to kill others by using equipment that is deemed worthy of killing
Based on the above definition, it can be concluded that the killings were deliberate actions aiming to spend a life with or without the use of equipment.
Sayid Sabiq (1980: 435) says the assassination is a murder committed by a mukalaf intentionally taking the life of others who is guaranteed his safety, using powerful tools that supposedly can kill (turn it off).
Based on the above definition, we can conclude that the murder is a thing to take the life of another person by using tools.

Violence is originated from Latin. It is derived from the word violentus VI or VIs means power or authority. Violence is the basic principle in public law and private Roman it is an expression either through physical or verbal aggression, reflecting on actions and attacks on freedom or dignity of a person that can be done by an individual or a group that is generally associated with its authority when it can be freely translated that all authority without regard to the validity of the use or arbitrary action , it can also be included in the formulation of this violence. Most people think that violence is only in a narrow context , that is like war , murder , or mayhem , even though the violence can be catagorized into many forms . Phenomenon that can be categorized in such violence is huge in volume . If people assume that any action that interferes with a person's physical or psychological condition is a form of violence , the racism and poverty can also be considered as violence
According Windhu (2002:166) pressure and hardness means it contains harsh insistence . Coercion and violence brings pressure ( Fananie , 2001:194 ) , not much different from Poerwandari’s opinion suggest that violence is all forms of action , and intentional or due to neglect and indifference that lead to another
(21)
man suffered from injuries , pain , destruction , not just in a physical sense . Violence is intended to be done by an individual , by a group , perhaps by the state (whether by its agents , or as a system ) , can be done by people close to the victim and who is not known to the victim , can be a form of personal problem solving , the form of engineering groups , ethnic and religious hatred products , and so on . Including male violence against other individuals or groups , male violence ( community ) against women , women may also violence against other human beings , not human violence is also impossible to itself through mutilation , masochism , or the murder itself . ( Pitaloka , 2004:11 ) Therefore, the violence in this case , is not in the strict sense , but rather a broader sense as described by Galtung ( Salmi , 2003:31 ) . Violence , there are four categories according to Galtung . First , violence (direct violence) which refers to the act of violence is physical or psychological attack someone directly . Are included in this category are all forms of murder ( homocide ) and also all forms of forced or violent acts that cause physical and psychological suffering , such as forced evictions , kidnapping , torture , and rape . Second , indirect violence (indirect violence) which acts harmful to humans , sometimes even to kill , but does not involve a direct relationship between the victim and those responsible for the violence . Third , the repressive violence ( repressive violence) is violent , although not dangerous to human life , but it is a gross violation of the curb freedom , human dignity , and equal rights for every human being . This repressive violence associated with the civil rights , such as freedom of thought , freedom of movement , and equality before the law . Fourth , violence alienatif (
(22)
alienating violence) which refers to the abrogation of individual rights is higher , such as the right emotional development , cultural , and intellectual . One form of violence alienatif is ethnocide , that is, policies or actions that change the material or social conditions to be under a certain cultural identity groups , such as the problem of racism.
Murder is an act of killing someone for the way that is unlawful , or which is not against the law . Murder is usually motivated by a variety of motives , such as politics , jealousy , revenge , self-defense , and so on . Murder can be done in various ways . The most common is to use firearms or other weapons . Murder can also be done by using explosives , such as bombs , about it also stimulates the jelian to shoot a people , in which our eyes must be focused on shooting fit . Shooting or firing (English : shooting ) is the act of firing a gun or other projectile weapons such as arrows or sling . This word can refer to the practice of hunting animals or it can also be used for sport shooting . Various forms of shooting can be an exciting and enjoyable activity , but safety is a very important and must be considered in dealing with the weapons used . In criminal law , theft is taking someone else's property illegally without the permission of the owner . The word is also used as an informal term for a number of crimes against other people's property , such as burglary , embezzlement , larceny , looting , robbery , store burglary , fraud and sometimes criminal exchanges . In certain jurisdictions , theft is considered the same as larceny ; while others mention the theft has replaced larceny

3.2 Brutality Character in Jack Reacher
Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher
Reacher is a former Major in the United States Army Military Police Corps. He was born on a military basein Berlin on 29 October 1960. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, he served 13 years in the Military Police, during which time he became part of a fictional military police unit, the 110th Special Investigations Unit, formed to handle exceptionally tough cases, especially those involving members of the U.S. Army Special Forces.
He received many military awards during his career, including the Silver Star, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Soldier's Medal, the Bronze Star, and a Purple Heartfor wounds sustained in the bombing of the U.S. Marine Corps barracks in Beirutin 1983.
Since leaving the Army, Reacher has been a drifter. He wanders throughout the U.S. because he was accustomed to being told where to go, when to go and what to do for every day of his life from military childhood to military adulthood. He also felt he never got to know his own country, having spent much of his youth living overseas on military bases and at West Point. He usually travels by hitchhiking or bus. As a drifter, the only possessions he carries are money, a foldable toothbrush and, after 9/11, an expired passport and an ATM debit card.
(24)
Regular references are made to the fact that Reacher's given name is Jack, that it is not a nickname for John, and that he has no middle name. His military record officially refers to him as Jack (none) Reacher. From the time he was a boy, his family, even his mother, called him simply "Reacher", an affectation that has stayed with him, but was never given to his brother (www.imbd.com).
Richard Jenkins as Rodin
Rodin has the uncanny ability to know what time it is, at any time of the day, without referring to a clock. He often uses his internal clock as an alarm, enabling him to wake up at any time he chooses. He sometimes uses his "human metronome" ability to countdown and calculate during time-related situations.
Rodin is highly skilled at fighting, enhanced by in-depth technical and military knowledge. He has experience and skills from various martial arts, although he is not an expert in any particular style. Rodin's favorite techniques include elbow strikes, uppercuts, and headbutts. His experience, skills, knowledge, and strength aid him in fighting as he is sometimes stronger than his opponents but often matched with similar or larger enemies. As revealed in Nothing to Lose, Rodin hates confronting an opponent armed with a knife, believing that he has "no particular talent for it".
He mentally plans his fights using physics in a scientific calculating method. He knows how to break a person's neck with one hand and kill someone with a single punch to the head or chest. In a fight against a 7 ft (2.1 m), 400 lb
(25)
(180 kg), steroid-using thug, Reacher lifts his opponent into the air and drops him on his head. He once reflected when a fight was about to start that he could defeat his opponent because his foe would be focused on 'the tactical victory [whereas Reacher] lived to piss on the other guy's grave.' Reacher placing greater importance on winning than on howhe will win.
Rodin is a skilled marksman. Throughout the novels, Rodin has shown great skill in the use of various types of firearms. In addition to being the only non-Marine to win the U.S. Marine Corps 1000 Yard Invitational rifle competition, he also won the U.S. Army Pistol Championship and served as a pistol instructor. In One Shot, Rodin uses his enhanced intelligence with advanced technical and military knowledge during a long range shooting scene slowing and counting his heartbeat while calculating wind, humidity, trajectory, speed, energy, and force (www.imbd.com).
Dylan Kussman as Gary
Gary wants to keep a low profile, having been transferred for assaulting a warder. He meets and befriends Archer, an eccentric and intellectual inmate intent on using non-violentmeans to cause as much of a nuisance to the staff as possible, and is informed his reputation is already known; Banks, the current "Daddy" (the inmate who “runs“ the Borstal) is seeking Gary for a fight.
(26)
Gary struggles to settle into the dormitory, and after having watched the timid and bullied Davis be attacked by Banks, is eventually beaten by Banks and his friends in an unprovoked attack.
Gary eventually gets his revenge on Banks. In the film's iconic scene, he uses a makeshift cosh from a long sock with two snooker balls inside to beat Banks's crony, then confronts Banks in the bathroom and replaces him as the “Daddy” of the ward. gary later acquires power over the adjacent wing of the borstal by administering a vicious beating to the adjacent wing's Daddy.
Life improves for the inmates under Gary, with victimisation of younger, weaker prisoners prevented, along with racially-motivated violence. Gary gains status with the warders. He persuades them to move him from the dormitory to a single cell in return for an agreement to be responsible in his status as a "natural leader". Goodyear offers Gary a position of leadership in the borstal to help him develop his leadership skills (www.imbd.com).
3.3 Brutal Scene in Jack Reacher Novel

(27)
Disputes in a bar, Racher was beaten by 5 unidentified people. ,Reacher was fortunately the former members of the police and could succeed to fight against all five men alone without assistance.

Lee Child (2012:9) say “His fourth head shot killed a man in a suit. His fifth shot missed completely. The Sierra Matchking passed close to a woman’s shoulder and missed straight into the ornamental pool and disappeared. BIBLIOGRAPHY
The Biography of Lee ChildLee Child was born in the exact geographic center of England, in the heart of the industrial badlands. Never saw a tree until he was 12. It was the sort of place where if you fell in the river, you had to go to the hospital for a mandatory stomach pump. The sort of place where minor disputes were settled with box cutters and bicycle chains. He's got the scars to prove it.
He survived, though, got an education and went to law school, but only because he didn't want to be a lawyer. Without the pressure of aiming for a job in the field, he figured it would be a relaxing subject to study. He spent most of his time in the university theater - to the extent that he had to repeat several courses, because he failed the exams - and then went to work for Granada Television in Manchester. Back then, Granada was a world-famous production company, known for shows like "Brideshead Revisited" (1981) (mini), "The Jewel in the Crown" (1984), Prime Suspect (1982) (TV) and "Cracker" (1993). Lee worked on the broadcast side of the company, so his involvement with the good stuff was limited. But he remembers waiting in the canteen line with people like Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Natalie Wood and Michael Apted. He says that being involved with more than 40,000 hours of the company's program output over an 18-year stay taught him a thing or two about telling a story. He also wrote

thousands of links, trailers, commercials and news stories, most of them on deadlines that ranged from 15 minutes to 14 seconds. So the thought of a novel a year didn't worry him too much in his next career.
Why a next career? He was fired, back in 1995, that's why. It was the usual 1990s downsizing thing. After 18 years he was an expensive veteran, and he was also the union organizer, and neither thing fit the company's plan for the future. Because of his union involvement, he wasn't on too many alternative employers' wish lists, either. So he became a writer, because he couldn't think of anything else to do. He had an idea for a character who had suffered the same downsizing experience but who was taking it completely in his stride. He figured if he brought the same total commitment to his audience that he'd seen his television peers develop, he could get something going. He named the character Jack Reacher and wrote "Killing Floor" as fast as he could (he needed to sell it before his severance check ran out). He made it with seven weeks to spare, and luckily the book was an instant hit, selling strongly all around the world and winning both the Anthony Award and the Barry Award for Best First Novel. It led to contracts for at least nine more Reacher books, which currently extend to 2006.
Lee moved from the UK to the US in the summer of 1998. He lives just outside New York City, with his American wife, Jane. They have a grown-up daughter, Ruth, and a small dog called Jenny. Lee fills his spare time with music, reading, and the New York Yankees. He likes to travel, for vacations, but especially on promotion tours so he can meet his readers, to whom he is eternally grateful.
