39 e. Looking for some solutions. Many solutions came to solve these kinds of problems, such as using games, using flash card, and using audio visual materials. f. Choosing the most effective solutions among them to be used. The researcher chose audio-visual material as the solution. The researcher used Fun with English as the media because it covers all students’ needs in developing their speaking skill. g. Formulating the research objectives. h. Choosing the participants. The researcher chose seventh year students of SMP 4 Ngaglik Sleman. It was because they have low quality of speaking English and they have the supporting media like TV and VCD player. i. Designing the materials. In designing the materials, the researcher collaborated with the English teacher. It was because this study was implemented in collaboration with the teacher.

a. Conducting a pre-test. It was aimed to know students’ achievement. b. Implementing the mediated-method. The researcher implemented Fun with English to teach two topics. The researcher taught the students and the teacher observed the teaching learning process. c. Conducting a post-test. d. Asking students to fill the questionnaire. e. CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter discusses how Fun with English as audio-visual materials is implemented to develop student’s speaking skill and how it improves students’ speaking skill that consists of improvement in students’ achievement and improvement in the teaching-learning process. The following section discusses them thoroughly. A. The Implementation of Fun with English as Audio-Visual Materials to Develop Students’ Speaking Skill

1. Cycle 1

The first cycle was started by conducting the pre-test. Here, the students were given pictures then they were asked to make questions about the pictures. They were asking about prices and asking information using WH-question in simple present. After analyzing the pre-test score, the researcher designed materials to improve students’ speaking skill using Fun with English. The first design was the use of Fun with English only. Based on the syllabus, the researcher chose expression on shopping as the topic. In the first meeting the researcher asked the students to watch the film. While watching the film, the students were asked to listen to the pronunciation and tried to repeat the pronunciation of every new word they heard. Then, they are asked to do the quiz provided at the end of the film. The quiz was about expressions on asking about prices. This activity aimed to review 41
