F. Time and Location of the Research

This research study was conducted with teachers in the department of English, Faculty of Letters and Fine Arts of Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta, Indonesia from September 2012 until February 2013. There are currently four main streams: American studies, translation, literature and linguistics. The core vision of the department is to produce quality graduates and scholars of English who are equipped with English language skills and independent attitudes to face the global competitions. Its membership of TELIN-Teaching English as a Foreign Language in Indonesia attests its commitment to the teaching of English as a foreign language. Language skills listening, reading, speaking, and writing and language components pronunciation, structures and grammar are core contents of the curriculum. Integrated English, English for academic purpose, English for Journalism and English for Public Relations, English for tourism, cross-cultural understanding have been included in the curriculum. The department focuses on undergraduate and diploma education. commit to user 72 In conclusion, this chapter provides the rationale behind the choice of the methodology, sample size and a brief description of the research participants. Also data analysis procedure is discussed. This is a phenomenological study, and the main instruments for data collection were interviewing and observation. commit to user 73

CHAPTER IV RESEARCH FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

This chapter consists of three parts. The first part is about the findings of the researchand was presented to reflect the structure of the problems stated on Chapter I: 1teachers’ attitudes towards use of literature; and 2 the factors that affect teachers’ use and non-use of literature in EFL classroom. The second part is about thediscussion of the findings and issues arising from the results. The thirdpart is about the weaknesses of the research. Below is the summary of the findings arising from the interview data based on the research questions is presented.
