The preliminary blue-print of the testing model 92 CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHODOLOGY It has been mentioned in the previous chapter that the thesis has two research questions as the starting points of the research and development of this thesis, namely: 1 What is the written English competence of Indonesia elementary students like? 2 What is the measurement instrument of the written English competence of Indonesia elementary school students like? To answer those research questions, this particular chapter will extensively elaborate the research method, research setting and participants, research instrument, data gathering technique, and data analysis technique.

A. RESEARCH METHOD

The research was designed based on the theory of Borg’s Research and Development R D. The RD 1983:771 consist of a cycle in which a version of the product is developed, field tested and revised on the basis of field –test data. Product of R D includes not only material objects, such as textbooks, instructional films and so forth, but is also intended to refer to establish procedures and processes such as a method of teaching or method for organizing instruction. The major phases in the R D cycle include ten steps: 1 research and information collection, 2 planning, 3 development of preliminary form of product, 4 preliminary field testing, 5 main product revision, 6 main field testing, 7 operational product revision, 8 operational field testing, 9 final product revision and 10 dissemination and implementation.
