Scope of Discussion Methods Used in Teaching English at SMAN 1 Kuta Utara.

1. Finding out the method of language teaching which is used by the teachers in SMAN 1 Kuta Utara. This study is focusing on the method of the teachers in giving their students materials and knowledge about English. 2. Explaining the problems faced by the teachers in teaching the language in the class. The discussion is also about the difficulty in giving the materials to improve the students’ ability in English. 1.5 Research Method 1.5.1 Data Sources The data of this study was taken from SMAN 1 Kuta Utara, which is located in Badung regency. This school was chosen as SMAN 1 Kuta Utara has been considered one of the top senior high schools in Bali. Many achievements in Academic field have been claimed, and the main reason is that SMAN 1 Kuta Utara is highly focusing on teaching English as a major aspect. There are two teachers as the informants; they are Ni Luh Made Suryati, S.S. and Drs. I Made Rai Mukiatna. They are currently teaching for the tenth grade classes. The teachers who teach the students in the tenth grade classes were chosen to be the informants, in order to find out their methods in teaching the students who were basically new in English learning. Besides, tenth grade class is the first stage for the students to improve and advance their ability in producing English as their second language. Therefore, the understanding of English would be tested whether they really comprehend English materials.

1.5.2 Method and Technique of Collecting Data

In this study, the data was collected by using field research method. The methods which were used in this study are interview and observation in the classroom. The interview was conducted in order to obtain the information from the teachers about the methods they mostly apply in the teaching process. The questions of the interview were about the methods that they usually apply in the teaching process and also about the problems which are mostly faced by the teachers. The second method is observation. Observation was conducted during the teaching process in the classroom. The objective of conducting observation was to find out the application of certain methods which were applied by the teachers. The application was about how they apply the methods The data was also collected by using two techniques. The first technique was voice recording. During the interview, the recording technique was conducted in order to record the result of the interview, therefore, it would be more reliable since it was recorded. The second technique was done by using note taking. During the observation, note taking technique was conducted in order to get the information that was closely
